Vehicle Description
1970 Buick Skylark Yellow Gran Sport GSX
Why This Car Is Special
We have a real-deal 1970 Buick Skylark Gran Sport GSX here at
Skyway Classics.
To say that this is a rare Buick is such an understatement. This is
the "Holy Grail" of Buick muscle cars!
To begin with, there were only 678 1970 Buick GSX produced of which
and 280 which were automatics.
So what makes a GSX a GSX? The GSX is basically a GS-455 with the
A9 option group. This includes a hood mount tachometer, power front
disc brakes, Rallye Ride Control suspension package, front and rear
spoilers, and heavy-duty cooling package. Inside, you get a Rallye
steering wheel with Rallye instrumentation, bucket seats, and a
custom interior trim package. All this plus a 3.64 axle ratio with
posi-traction differential and 7-inch wheels set you back $1,196
for the package.
This was one of the most luxurious muscle cars you could buy. Even
though it was a performance car, Buick didn't skimp on amenities
and creature comforts when creating this car.
Mechanical Specs
The GSX came standard with a 455 cubic-inch V8 with 350 horsepower
and a whopping 510 lb.-ft. of torque and this is what is in our
Buick GSX.
Motor Trend flogged a GSX and went from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds and
realized a time of 13.38 in the quarter mile at 105.5 mph. Not bad
for a car weighing almost 4,000 pounds.
Ours is backed by a Turbo-Hydro 400 transmission and has power
steering, power assisted front disc brakes, air conditioning,
chrome valve covers, the factory ram air cleaner system, tube
headers, and all sitting in a very clean painted and detailed
engine compartment.
Interior
The interior features a pair of black factory bucket seats with
headrest and a full console in between that houses the automatic
shifter and woodgrain inserts, matching rear seat, Buick
three-spoke factory steering wheel, factory dash and gauges, stereo
pushbutton radio, seatbelts, black carpet and floor mat.
The trunk is in good order with correct spatter paint as well as
trunk mat and spare tire mat.
Exterior
The 1970 GSX was available in only two colors. 491 were produced in
Saturn Yellow and 187 were produced in Apollo White. Both colors
came with black body striping that flowed across the top of the
front fenders, doors, rear quarters, and rolled over the rear
spoiler.
Another standout feature of the GSX was the size of its wheels and
tires. Buick installed 7-inch wide Buick Rally wheels and now has
Mickey Thompson Sportsman raised white letter tires.
Our 1970 Buick Skylark Gran Sport GSX is finished in the factory
correct Saturn Yellow with black and red GSX stripes, factory ram
air hood scoops, hood tach, and the GSX rear spoiler.
The yellow paint is bright and has good body lines as well as
chrome and trim items, and the exhaust is great with the dual
exhaust system exiting out the rear.
Conclusion
The 1970 Buick Skylark Gran Sport GSX we have available here at
Skyway Classics is extremely rare and priced accordingly. It is
verified by the factory paperwork, Protect-O-Plate, the correct GSX
VIN number, the correct Trim Tag paint and interior numbers, and
more.
The 1970 Buick GSX offered one of the most impressive "Supercars"
of the day and is judged by many as one of the greatest muscle cars
ever built.
