For Sale: 1966 Chevrolet C10 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1966 Chevrolet C10 Pickup

Although pickups came of age after World War II, they continued to evoke a postwar sensibility until Chevy introduced a groundbreaking generation of trucks in 1960. Not only were these C/K pickups a designation that is still in unofficial use equipped with the segment's first independent front suspension, but a new drop-center X-shaped frame reduced the height of the vehicle by up to seven inches. The lower stance was emphasized by an attractive, pinched-waist body marred only by a fussy front end featuring "jet pod" eyebrows over the grille. Over time, the hoodline was lowered and the front fascia simplified, and by the end of the model run in 1966, the pickup was an exemplar of restrained elegance.

They say never judge a book by its cover and boy does that apply to this truck...a one and only 1966 Chevy C10 rat rod pickup. Powered by a behemoth 396ci/500hp, (consigner stated no documentation), monster engine and an automatic transmission, this wolf in sheep's clothing does everything right. Equipped with power front disc brakes, air conditioning, 18-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, independent front suspension and finished wooden bed, this truck checks all the boxes for performance and handling enhancements. It truly drives better than new. The cab of the Chevy is flawless and although upgraded in materials from original, it still retains its originality with tasteful and nearly unnoticeable upgrades. This one and only C10 will certainly turn heads and win trophies at any exhibition one may choose to enter.

Exterior
For 1966 the Jet Pod eyebrows are now gone, and the hood now is simplified yet still upstanding with turn signals, and dual intake vents in the center. Just below is the unrestored to perfection single headlight white egg crate grille bordered below by a white aged paint bumper. Rust is all here in its rat rod glory but has been covered with a coat of lacquer to stop it in its tracks but yet retain its worn aged gracefully charm. Moving back, we note all straight steel for the body and bed panels, this year double lined on the bed. Gaps are well minded, chrome trimmings are nicely redone, and the window trimmings have been roughed up as well as the door which looks like it's been partially stripped then stopped by the clear coating. Worn orange and burnt orange patin adorns the bed side panels, rear tailgate and somewhat rusted bumper below. The worn metal surrounds a newly restored oak bed with chromed dividers. This provides a great contrast to the worn metal throughout and is very structurally sound. Aged steel gray painted wheels showing surface rust are capped by chromed bowtie badged center wheel coverings and wrapped by 19-inch-wide white walls in front and 20 inchers on back. Aged but stopped in its tracks!

Interior
In contrast to the exterior, we see warm gray full metal jacket painted door panels which are two tone gray. Lighter framing and darker inserts are just beautifully done and faultless compared to the exterior. For the bench cream tuck and roll inserts are framed by smooth slightly darker warm cream bolsters, all in vinyl. Back to the warm gray for the side panels and lowers for this pristine bench. To the dash where we see more two-tone warm gray just like the doors. Clean pristine instruments fronted by a rally style steering wheel with a slight warm gray column. Black carpeting covers the floors and above is a utilitarian, yet near perfection painted metal ribbed ceiling. Vintage A/C is in as well as some aftermarket gauges below the dash.

Drivetrain
Underneath the hood we can say orange ya glad its restored? Yes, here we see a newly painted orange firewall and orange/red bowtie block for this 396ci V8. It's looking like new with its black painted dual snout air cleaner covering and like new master cylinder hoses and AC compressor. On top a 4-barrel carburetor feeds the 396 cubes and on back a 700R4 4-speed automatic makes driving a breeze. The rear axle weighs in at 12-bolts with a 3.31 conventional gear ratio. Headers are on and a Flowmaster exhaust easily takes care of the exhaust business.

Undercarriage
Well done underneath with a sturdy X frame, clean black metal floor pans, and wood for the underside of the bed. In front we see independent coil spring suspension, and on the rear is 3 link coil sprung suspension. Power disc braking to show the roll from the 396 cubes, and power drums for the rear. No rat on this ride's belly!

Drive-Ability
A super quick starter, and nice runner, for a pickup it loved our test track almost as much as I loved driving it. Very comfy ride, nice sound, good handling, and snappy acceleration. Also, a quick stopper with those power disc/ drum brakes. No problems for this rad rat ride.

Get that monkey off your back and get down to the hallowed halls of the Classic Auto Mall, and feast your eyes on this wild ride in pickup form from 1966. Its leading double lives looking rad rat on the exterior and fully restored and buttoned up and the remainder of the truck. A great creation and showstopper.
