Vehicle Description
Purchased in 1988 by its restorer, this GTX was used as a tow
vehicle for a Connecticut-based drag racer. The car was
disassembled and shipped out for a full chemical strip. Originally
the car was green, but with a solid fresh body, the car was sprayed
with a high-quality DuPont aircraft primer and a glossy black
2-stage paint, giving it a deep black look to go with the black
bucket seat interior. The car was shipped to the Mopar experts at
Pennsylvania's Totally Auto Inc. for reassembly and completed in
2007 using NOS grille, taillights and HEMI GTX badges. This
Plymouth has won First Place at the 2008 Mopar Nationals, First
Place at the 2011 Mopars on the Mississippi and First in Class at
the 2017 Mopar Nationals. This car performs just as well as it
looks with a dual-quad 426ci HEMI V8 engine with NOS points
distributor and a rugged A833 4-speed manual transmission spinning
a powder-coated Dana axle fitted with 4.10 gears and a Sure-Grip
differential. The front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension have
been completely restored, and the car includes the correct manual
steering box, 2.5-inch aluminized exhaust pipes and an H-shaped
crossover, requisite turbo mufflers and polished stainless tips.
Brakes are factory-equipped power-assisted front disc and rear drum
combination. The car rides on chrome 14-inch Magnum 500 wheels and
7.75x14-inch Firestone Deluxe Champion red line tires. Additional
features include a Plymouth Transaudio radio, NOS shifter and
era-correct big Sun Super Tach II. The sale includes a binder of
restoration photos, receipts, a copy of the DaimlerChrysler
production record, a copy of the DaimlerChrysler punch card and
paperwork from the DaimlerChrysler Corporate Historical Collection.
