For Sale: 1950 MG TD in Patchogue, New York

Vehicle Description

MG TD # TD2243 Engine #2560: Frame is original and straight with no rust other than minor surface rust where undercoating flaked off. Exhaust system is in good condition with no leaks. All wood floors replaced. Body is rust-free without any patches or rust repair visible. The Autumn Red paint job (1951 color) has remained in excellent condition. Many small chrome pieces have some minor pitting. I believe both bumpers were re-chromed, most all other chrome pieces look original. The top and tonneau boot are in excellent condition with minor stains or discoloration. The seat has small cracks and splits in leather. I have side curtain frames only. Complete set of Whitworth spanners and sockets go with the car. I have original workshop manual and jack with handle. COMPLETED THIS YEAR: Compression check; 145lbs. in all cylinders. Motor does not smoke. Fuel lines flushed, new fuel pump and filters. Both SU carburetors rebuilt. Cooling system flushed, radiator pressure tested, new hoses. New battery, starter and generator. New Tach reduction gearbox installed. Oil and filter changed, transmission fluid changed. Rear differential fluid changed. All new brakes to include wheel cylinders, brake shoes, flexible brake lines, and rebuilt master. Valve lash adjusted. HOW IT RUNS: Cold motor starts easy but runs rough until warm. I usually double-clutch 3rd and 4th gears when cold. If not, there is a slight grind moving through these gears. The car drives straight and brakes evenly. All lights work except the fog and running light, as they are not connected. U.S Royal 5.60 tires have age, but are in excellent condition due to particularly good climate controlled storage.

Previous owner purchased this MG TD in June 1993 from original owner in Glen Ellen, Illinois. It was driven for 2 years prior to frame-off restoration. Prior to moving to Houston Texas from Evanston, Illinois, the new owner had the restoration completed at a shop in Niles, Illinois. Before reassembling in 1995, he installed a new top, interior, tonneau cover, rugs, seats, walnut dashboard, timbers, etc. The gas tank was relined for the 1st time and the wiring harness replaced. In 2003 the owner was transferred to London but kept his home in Houston where the MG was garaged and not driven for 6 years. When returning from London, the fuel system was cleaned and the car was made operational again. Soon after, he was transferred to Georgia and arranged to store the car. I purchased the car as a winter covid project in July 2020. Now I am retiring to North Carolina this spring and can not take the car. The clear Texas title was transferred to my company, a Fleet servicing company that also maintains a dealer license. The MG will be sold and transferred through my company to the new owner.
