Very nice driver!
The XKE series Jaguar was an instant success from the moment it
appeared at the automotive seen in 1961! As each new generation was
improved from the last, it continued to offer more and more to the
buyers after the prestigious luxury sports car from England! This
included improved brakes, better suspension, superior interior
comfort, more significant cooling, and bigger displacement engines!
By 1971, the short wheelbase offering was long gone in favor of a
quality ride, and power steering was now a standard feature. The
Series III was born with a V12 with quad Zenith-Stromberg
carburetion under the bonnet, and only 7,297 2+2 Coupes were
produced over the entire four-year production!
We are delighted to offer this very sharp 1973 Jaguar XKE Series
III 2+2 finished in Signal Red over new Black Leather interior!
Options include number matching 5.3L V12 engine producing a
powerful 272 horsepower, automatic transmission, air conditioning
(R134a converted), chrome 15" wire spoke wheels with radial redline
tires, upgraded AM/FM/CD/XM Alpine radio, quad fan-tip chrome
exhaust, leather wrapped steering wheel, telescoping column, remote
outside mirror, rear defrost, and tinted window glass! Standard
options included a responsive 4-wheel independent suspension with
disc brakes at all four corners, power rack and pinion steering,
front & rear bumper guards, along with full dash instrumentation
with electric tachometer!
This gently used Jaguar 2+2 shows 51,606 miles on the odometer
today, with an older repaint to the exterior that continues to show
quite well today, with patina along the rear hood and driver door
edges that have been touched up. Upon acquisition by the St. Louis
Car Museum, it would undergo a full mechanical service to include a
comprehensive overhaul of all four Stromberg carburetors including
floats, bypass diaphragms, and vacuum lines; new fuel filter & air
filters; complete engine cooling hose kit & clamps along with all
new coolant & radiator cap; new ball joint boots (4); new steering
rack dust boots; new exhaust flange gaskets, extension pipes, front
mufflers, mounts & clamps; an alternator charging conversion with
new volt gauge; new battery; new NGK Copper sparks plugs, plug
wires, distributor cap & rotor with upgraded Crane Cams Fireball
XR700 electric ignition; rebuilt tachometer; engine oil and filter
change; brand new 205/70R15 red stripe radial tires from Diamond
Back; new wiper blades among a few smaller items.
The interior was all original with the front leather seats showing
their age, particularly the common issue of the shrinking foam
inside the headrests. Our upholstery shop rebuilt both front seats
with new foams, leather seat covers from World Upholstery along
with both headrests and center armrest. They also contributed
replacement of the interior carpeting and complete headliner with
new sun visors! New door sill rubbers were installed as well as
rear door hinge covers. The results really gave new life to the
deserving interior cabin! It remains a remarkable boulevard cruiser
with excellent Jaguar style lines and coupe comforts! Please call
to schedule a chance to see it person to discuss the chance to add
it to your collection. Thanks for looking!
