Vehicle Description
1929 Buick Model 29-55 Touring
Buick garnered a reputation of being a doctor's choice in lieu of
purchasing a Cadillac. Reason being, physicians of the day were
very contentious of their patients and what their impression of
them was, and of course their car was a giveaway. If a patient
would pull up or the doc would arrive at a patient's house, in a
Cadillac, they may have left with the impression that the doc is
overpaid. But a Buick of the day was certainly as luxurious and way
more affordable than a Cadillac, so the impression was left to the
patient!
For consignment, a 1929 Buick Model 29-55 Touring sedan in
beautiful condition. Recent maintenance and some rebuilds have this
car in tip top shape and ready to turn the key and drive away for
some fun.
Exterior
Wonderful maroon paint bathes the body of this big car, and there
is plenty of steel too cover. From the cowled hood to the 4 doors
and beyond, maroon is beautifully applied and looks as new.
Contrasting black fenders curve around large wide white wall tires
that wrap straw colored wire spoked 20-inch wheels. Even the 2
spare tires on either side tucked into the front fenders are
beautifully restored and await their being pressed into service if
need be. Leading the way is a beautifully chromed radiator surround
flanked on either side by a large round headlight. Triple bars for
the bumper below that undulates to the contour of the front of the
vehicle. Pinstriped fenders show in black as does the open
suspension in front, all rust free and beautifully preserved.
Moving back on the laser straight cowled hood some running lights
are attached to the firewall cowl, and a chromed shiny windshield
surround is noted, that can be lowered when the top is in the down
position. 4 doors for easy entry into the luxurious passenger
compartment over the running boards we go. A tan canvas convertible
top is held on by a chromed metal and oak wood frame which has been
beautifully restored. On the back between the rear fenders in black
is a trunk which sits perched atop a luggage rack on the back of
the car. Triple chromed bar split bumpers protect the fenders in
back and add a nice highlight to the back of this beautiful car.
Every detail on this car has been attended to and we have a
beautiful restoration for 1929 which presents as new.
Interior
Saddle brown stitched leather for this interior which is on the
door panels in the form of a locking pouch, which has the door
actuator above. Stitched leather straps are providing the hinges.
Inside dual overstuffed tuck and roll benches covered in faultless
saddle brown leather provide the passenger seating. The rear bench
has armrests and provides plenty of space for the rear passengers.
A rich warm wood rimmed steering wheel fronts a black metal painted
dash that is peppered with round chrome bezel black faced gauges.
These are within a chromed framed panel. The dash top is bathed in
maroon like the exterior. Brown carpeting covers the floors and
leather also trims the toe kick panels under the dash. A long shift
lever rises up from the floor to reach for the driver's hand.
Drivetrain
Under the cowled hood is a perfectly restored 309ci inline
6-cylinder engine. It is painted a beautiful lima bean green and
has silver attachments throughout. A 1-barrel carburetor is feeding
the engine, and a 3-speed manual transmission is on back. All
presented in showroom condition under this hood.
Undercarriage
As expected with a restoration of this quality, no road dirt or
rust is seen underneath. Sturdy black painted framing, body hangers
and some wood flooring are noted in all pristine condition. Leaf
spring suspension is on all 4 corners, and mechanical drum brakes
are seen all around as well.
Drive-Ability
As with the appearance of this car so goes the drive-ability, which
to sum up is perfection. It has smooth acceleration, all functions
are performing as they should, and the car handles nicely, and
stops well for a mechanical drum brakes car.
Overall very nicely preserved and the presentation is excellent.
Any self-respecting country doctor would drive this car in lieu of
a Caddy any day of the week and look "fair priced" while doing so.
A plus plus for this 1929 Buick.
