Rod magazine editor, Ron Kinnan Car and Driver gave a quick rundown
on the Super Snake: The latest volley in the war for aftermarket
Mustang supremacy is the Super Snake package from Shelby American.
Designed to enhance the looks and performance of the factory-baked
2011 Shelby GT500, the package includes suspension, braking, and
exterior upgrades. Shelby began with performance, gifting the GT500
a short-throw shifter and a Borla exhaust. A supercharger upgrade
bumps power to 750 hp (versus the stock 550), and there's an
optional kit good for 800 hp. Fortunately, the Super Snake also
receives chassis upgrades in the form of a set of Ford Racing
adjustable dampers and springs, stiffer anti-roll bars, and a new
strut-tower brace. The car rides on 20-inch Alcoa wheels available
in silver or anthracite gray. Baer brakes with six-piston calipers
and cross-drilled rotors are also fitted. Offered here is a 2011
Shelby GT500 Super Snake in Sterling Gray Metallic over Charcoal
Black. Built during August 2010 and delivered new at the Las Vegas
Shelby Museum, extensively documented as number 2375 of 4,150
produced, and showing 8,879 miles on its odometer (fewer than 900
miles per-year on average), the car's condition is literally
like-new in every respect. A full listing of the Shelby's equipment
is provided on the copy of the factory window sticker included in
the sale and also presented in the photo gallery. The exterior
metallic gray paint retains showroom condition and virtually
perfect gloss across every Shelby-specific body treatments
including the vented-intake aluminum hood, lower and upper
functional side air scoops, and rear-deck spoiler. (The lower front
spoiler is carbon-fiber of a similar color.) Blackout front grilles
and rear-valance trim are perfectly complemented by the LeMans
black racing stripes and the Shelby rocker-panel stripes with model
designation: Super Snake GT500. There is a subtlety to the color
scheme that refrains from screaming Look at me! All factory
badging-the Cobra grille emblem, Super Snake front-fender emblems,
and the S-H-E-L-B-Y letters on the rear deck above the Shelby Super
Snake GT500 fuel filler cap-remains in place and in perfect
condition. Chrome trim is kept to a minimum, basically including
the hood locks, dual-exhaust tips, and the rear gas cap. (To best
assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view
the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.)
Black, 10-spoke, Shelby Super Snake-embossed, 20-inch forged wheels
(with Shelby Super Snake centercaps) are mounted with Pirelli®
performance tires. The open-spoke wheel design offers good views of
the red Shelby-branded Wilwood® brake calipers and the
cross-drilled and ventilated brake rotors. The interior benefits
from a host of performance-related upgrades as well as first-class
appointments. Horizontal-design, tightly pleated charcoal-black
leather seat upholstery harkens back to the design used on the
first Shelby Mustangs. Headrests bear an embroidered Cobra Super
Snake logo. Door panels incorporate the same upholster design but
in a vertical layout. Charcoal-black cabin carpeting includes
Carroll-Shelby-signature-embroidered protective carpet mats, and
door-sill brushed-metal trim pieces bear the Super Snake
identification. A multi
