This 1968 Shelby GT500 convertible #00188 is in the SAAC registry
and is verified by an Elite Marti Report. One of 402 GT500
convertibles produced in 1968, this example sports a factory Candy
Apple Red exterior with white rocker panel stripes. This GT500 is
powered by a 428ci V8 engine paired to a 3-speed C6 automatic
transmission with a 3.50 ratio rear end. It rides on Shelby
10-spoke wheels wrapped in period-correct Goodyear Speedway
large-letter tires. The car was delivered new with factory options
that include power top with glass backlite, the Extra Cooling
Package, Visibility Group, wheel well moldings, power steering,
power front disc brakes, AM radio, Interior Decor Group, deluxe
black bucket seats, wood shifter handle with inlaid cobra, clock,
tachometer and trip odometer. This car retains its other Shelby
unique parts, including fiberglass front end and hood, fiberglass
rear corner pieces and trunk, Lucas fog lamps and sequential
taillights. Of the 402 convertibles produced, 249 were automatic,
51 were finished in red, 43 had black luxury bucket seats, 25 had a
white convertible top and 13 featured the extra cooling package.
This example is the only one that was delivered to snow- and
salt-free Louisiana.
