Vehicle Description
1991 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible
The name Camaro was reportedly derived from Heath's French and
English Dictionary as a term that translated to "friend" or
"comrade." Reporters were told by GM product managers that the term
also meant "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs." And the
stage for the rivalry was set.
For consignment, a 1991 version of the Camaro in convertible form.
This car comes to us with a top to bottom rebuild, (and subsequent
modification), of its 350 Vortec V8 engine, with a performance
chip, fresh paint and interior, and a rebuilt A/C system, along
with its long list of sporty attributes, good looks and great
performance...Hey!! It's a Camaro!
Exterior
This version of the sporty Camaro is bathed in Dark Teal Metallic
and has straight steel with well minded gaps throughout. Paint
looks great and the car was stripped to care metal prior to the
respray. A neatly shaped front still retaining the throwback look
from the originals but with a much more aero twist. No chrome, just
the Dark Teal Metallic and some black accenting around the grille
and headlights. A bit of aero styling can be seen on the front
quarters and rockers and it's all Dark Teal. The top is a manual
operated top and shows in black canvas with a clear rear glass
window. When it's down a neat black plastic tonneau covering hides
it nicely. On back a small spoiler and some triangular edged wrap
around taillights. Also on the body matching neoprene bumper is an
RS and bowtie badge in light blue decal format. Snazzy polished
torque thrust 5 spoke wheels are now on all 4 corners and wrapped
with like new Cooper Cobra rubber. The paint is all good with very
few faults.
Interior
A swing of the sporty looking doors and we note plenty of aero
molded plastic and vinyl mixing with some striped tweed broadcloth
and black carpeting. A pale white and industrial look houses the
door actuator, power window toggle and the mirror joystick.
Slipping inside we shake hands and butts with nicely shaped racing
style high back buckets that sport more striped tweed with a light
background and some black accenting in cloth and a hint of vinyl in
the centers. Black headrests and side bolsters add to the look. A
matching rear 2 bucket seat/bench is in back. More beautifully
molded and sculpted vinyl for the center console and dash which
both make use of the undulating line where nothing is squared off,
gosh I'm glad the 80's styling is gone! All clean and good looking
for the dash, complete with a brushed stainless background for the
white-faced instrument cluster. Black carpeting flooding the
floors. Also noted is a killer stereo system with an AM/FM/CD
player and some serious 600W subwoofers in the trunk!
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 350ci Vortec V8 that has a tricky performance
chip installed. EFI is feeding the fossils to the modified mill,
all going through a ported Edelbrock intake. On back is a 700R4
4-speed automatic transmission with a 2000rpm stall converter.
Hooker Headers are on, and a 10-bolt 3.42 posi also aids with this
moving forward task! The consignor states the power plant has
approx 6K miles clocked on it since the rebuild. A new radiator is
now in to keep this hot mill all cool and run the A/C on the
hottest of days. I can tell you and you will see in the photos that
this engine and bay is simply gorgeous!
Undercarriage
A light peppering of surface rust is seen on a few cast suspension
parts, but all unremarkable. The inner rear bumper support is
suffering from invasive rust although the consignor has a new part
that will come with the car. Otherwise, stamped steel floor pans
and rockers with some light patina form age but no rust on these
items. Independent front suspension, and a torque arm with coil
springs are in back. Power disc brakes and power drum brakes
provide the stopping power, and a clean stainless steel Magnaflow
exhaust gives this engine plenty of pipe to exhale freely.
Drive-Ability
This car fired right up and on the test track performed as
expected, with all functions working. Having driven many a Camaro
here at Classic Auto Mall, I'd have to say I did notice more power
than usual coming from this one. I could say the force is strong
with this one! The trunk would not latch for me.
Virtually a like new car with all the rebuilt parts put on, new
paint, new engine, and new interior. All looking just spiffy and
ready to tear up any Mustang that it may encounter.
