For Sale: 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

Sometimes a hobby turns into obsession, the best simply isn't good enough, and the student eventually becomes the teacher. With that in mind, we can't think of a better car to be obsessed with than the Chevy Bel Air. Long coveted by pretty much anyone who has an affinity for mixing chrome and gasoline, tri-fives like this sweet '57 continue to prove that, in the realm of mobility, age increases desirability. But this isn't just some fixed-to-cruise charmer that'll look good in front of the local Dairy Queen.

Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest Bel Air of them all?? For consignment, a 1957 Bel Air. It's a highly correct hard top that's benefitted from a California lifestyle, custom paint, and polished Ridler wheels. It has a 327ci V8, broadcloth bucket seat front interior and some modernization to make it more creature comfortable.

Exterior "And then he will carry me away to the castle, where I will live happily ever after." In your dreams Snow White, and exactly what this car is made for, pure enjoyment. From its golden toothy grille that floats between a small upper bumper and lower large bumper complete with rubber tipped "Dagmars", to the beltline swoop spear that makes a downward turn on the rear quarter panel, this restoration is truly the definition of the term "buttoned up." Dual rocket style hood embellishments are fronting curved gentle tubes that are on either side of the hood. These run back toward the windshield where they die into the hood. Very nice, (just like the bumpers and trim), chrome headlight bezels frame the single headlights, and wonderful chromed side view mirrors, door handles, and window trim are all good. Wrap around front and rear glass is beautifully trimmed in stainless steel on the B pillars, and the uppers of this car are showing in Royal Blue. This paint is beautifully applied and runs deep. The lowers are painted white with an airbrushed blue arrow swooping to the back where just above, we see an offshoot of the downward sloping spear, that also runs to the rear of the car, and borders a horizontally ribbed aluminum panel with a gold BelAir badge in your grandmother's handwriting and cloisonne Chevrolet bowtie badge. We need to talk about the straight steel panels all around, with fair minded gaps. 4 shiny Ridler 5 spoke chromed are wrapped in low profile rubber. It's gettin' deep!

Interior
Dripping in 50's styling but with a modern twist, there is abundant use of the nifty vertical tuck and roll try broadcloth that has black vinyl upper and gray carpeted lower. Slipping inside a more modern twist with wide low back buckets in gray broadcloth and sporting some shiny dark gray bolsters and chromed edging on the backs. A Hurst shifter is on the floor just within reach of the driver. Fronting the original and pinstriped painted dash is a rally steering wheel which has a billet insert and leather covered rim, mounted on a chromed tilt column. Cutting through the middle of the dash is a chromed mesh horizontal trim that houses the AM/FM radio, and various control knobs. On top of the dash is an aftermarket tachometer, and below a trio of extra gauges in a stainless shiny panel. This floats above clean gray carpeting and red striped edged floor mats. In back is a broadcloth rear bench, and some extra speakers mounted into the rear interior deck. The trunk has been beautifully lined with black felting. 'What's the matter? Cat got your tongue??"

Drivetrain
Fully restored and rebuilt, a consigner stated 327ci V8i V8 is sitting within one of the cleanest engine bays in Classic Auto Mall. An orange/red block and shiny valve covers and a single 4-barrel carb feeding this beautiful mill. On the back is a 4-speed manual Muncie M20 pushing power rearward to a 3.36 ratio pumpkin. All very nice finishes abound... Pleasant Dreams!

Undercarriage
Slight surface rust is seen on various parts but floor pans and body hangers are rust free Dual Flowmaster exhaust worms it's way back past all this finery. Power front disc brakes brakes are up front and power drums for the rear along with power steering and independent coil spring front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension are all clean and pristine.

Drive-Ability
As like the rest of the car, it runs very well, starting immediately, shifting smoothly, and providing a smooth ride. A roll down of the window and we were off. Plenty of power from those 4 barrels feeding the 327 cubes, which all ran just smooth as silk.

If you are in the market for the best year of the tri-fives, that is as close to really nice as one can get, then look no further because this is the nicest example I've seen in a long while. Bathed in wonderful deep blue with white lowers and some custom airbrushing throughout. A neat resto-mod-esque creation. Come on down, you will not be disappointed.
