The Volkswagen Beetle is a two door, rear engine economy car that was manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen from 1938 until 2003. With 21,529,464 produced, the Beetle is the longest running and most manufactured car of a single platform ever made. Although designed in the 1930s civilian Beetles only began to be produced in significant numbers by the end of the 1940s due to World War II. The original 25 hp Beetle was designed for a top speed around 60 mph. As Autobahn speeds increased in the postwar years, its output was boosted to 36 hp, then 40 hp and in 1970 U.S. models received the 1600cc engine that produced 60hp. In 1976 Volkswagen added back many of the features that were removed from the Beetle in 1971 such as the bright window and running board moldings along with the day/night mirror, horn ring, map pocket, locking glove box and miscellaneous other items. This particular example was optioned in a highly desirable Palma Metallic Green and shows 88,029 on the odometer which is believed to be correct. It is nicely optioned with an era correct roof mounted luggage rack as well as a set of sweet 15” American Racing rims wrapped in newer 165/80R15 radial tires that add tons of curb appeal. The current owner has owned it for over 5 years and has serviced it annually regardless of the mileage. Everything is working as it should with the exception of the stereo and the gas gauge. The interior is in overall good condition but would benefit from a new set of door panels. The exterior looks great from 10 foot away but upon closer inspection you will notice some fading and bubbling that you will want to be aware of. It is a very reliable car that you can drive anywhere without concern. Based on the overall condition of this vehicle we would rank it as a very solid #3 car and would appraise it at $14,200 accordingly.
