Vehicle Description
This 1966 Chevrolet Caprice coupe reigned supreme when new with its
range-topping style and road-owning size. And today this classic
still continues to command attention for being an exceptionally
preserved/presented hardtop with terrific paperwork.
Chevy fans know this is something very special. 1966 was the first
year for the Caprice coupe. The name was introduced as the top
option package for the Impala sedan the previous year, but then it
was given its own unique styling as the new king of the full-size
Chevys. The roofline is unique to the Caprice, and it looks quite
regal. Then again, everything is going to look good on a car this
straight. The coupe's Lemonwood Yellow is the factory-correct
color, and it continues to have a nice gloss thanks to a proper
investment later in life. And the sophistication of a taut black
vinyl top and coordinating full-length black pinstripe is exactly
what you want on a 1960s luxury machine. Being the top-level
Chevrolet also meant not skipping out on chrome anywhere. Caprices
added brightwork over the Impala up front, and there is no missing
those cool tail lamps with wraparound bright ribbing. It has a true
cruiser style, and we especially like the California license plate
frames and front black plate. It helps tell the story we were told
about how this spent its decades under its first owner in Los
Angeles.
The upper-classic feeling continues inside. All the black accenting
of the exterior set the tone for the full black interior. The
seats, side panels, carpeting, headliner, and dash have the deep
and dark look of a proper investment and/or exceptionally respected
originality. And the smooth dark wood-like paneling on the dash and
doors adds a proper warmth to the classic coupe feeling. The whole
setup is for vintage lovers, right down to details, like the
working dome lights, Delco AM/FM radio, and button-top presentation
on the seats and doors. And the rarely seen tilt steering column
also makes this a better cruiser. It's easy to show off the full
classic style to the world just by rolling down all the windows on
this pillarless hardtop.
The classic and correct presentation continues under the hood. The
bold Chevy orange and vintage callouts draw your attention to the
327 cubic-inch V8, and this year-correct block is believed to be
original to the car. Topped with a Quadrajet four-barrel
carburetor, this is a stout powerhouse that makes the right torque
to move this coupe with authority. Plus, the Powerglide automatic
transmission and supple ride make for a good cruising package.
The sale comes complete with desirable paperwork like a
reproduction window sticker, original warranty card, previous
registrations, and the owner's manual packet. This is the cool and
significant classic that remains a stylish vintage machine. Call
