This Guards Red beauty truly stands out in so many ways. Built by perhaps the highest quality coach builder, Intermeccanica based in Canada, this Cabriolet Roadster 356 replica was built in 1998 for a gentleman in Georgia who owned it until 2010 when it was sold to the second owner in Georgia who owned for 10 years before I purchased it and sold it to another local gentleman. While he loves the car, his wife does not enjoy the classic car experience as much and convinced him to buy something diffferent he asked me to find a new owner for this awesome car....maybe you?! The 356 D Cabriolet Roadster has a taller windshield, roll up windows ( actually power windows on this one), and thicker, more comfortable speeds then Speedsters. Intermeccanica is one of the only replica companies building the Cabriolet.
Paint and body are in near flawless condition and truly look like a car that was built a year ago. Hard to believe this one was built 23 years ago when you see the conditiion. Intermccanica has built their repuation as the premier coach builder of these 356 replicas and when you see this car you will see why. Unlike many other builds Intermeccanica builds their cars on a custom chassis providing a roomier cabin with more footwell space and accomodating taller drivers if needed. Paint quality is top notch using Glasurit OE acrylic urethane and clear coated, wet sanded and polished. Guards Red suits this car beautifully and the body is truly near flalwess with just a few very tiny rock chips that have been touched up. Front and rear bumper guards, rear reflectors, body side molding trim all look great. Body panel fit is truly top notch and probably better then the originals. rear engine grille has a vintage German car club badge and Porsche emblem badge attached. A third brake light is also neatly hidden in the engine grille for added safety. The black german canvas convertible top is in great condition and a matching boot coverlooks great while the top is down which hopefully is most of the time! As you will see in the pics this car truly looks amazing and I assure you it looks as good in person as it does in the pics.
Complimenting the Guards Red exterior is a full leather tan interior that also looks great. the Cabriolet interior offers the thicker , more cushioned touring style seats and the Intermeccanica truly provides a roomier interior then VW pan based cars with considerable more footwell room. Carpeting is the German Square weave in tan that shows some wear but still looks great and a brand new set of Coco mats really look awesome. The gentleman who had this car built sourced an Original steering wheel that was installed at the time of build and is probably worth about $2500 on its own. Dash features VDO gauges with the Speedometer and odometer in Kilometers. Door panels have document pockets and while the window cranks look like typical crank up handles the windows are actually power windows and you just move the handle up or down and the windows function quickly and smoothly. This Cabriolet also has Air conditiioning that works great so you can put the windows and top up and drive in comfort even on the hottest days. In colder weather you also have heat to keep you and your passenger comfortable. Clarion stereo with JBL speakers and a power antennae. 3-point seat belts for added safety. A Quartz clock in the dash actually works but don't worry about the time....just get out and enjoy this beauty every chance you get!!!
With just 14,450 miles ( 23,160 km) this Cabriolet is a joy to drive and is a true cruiser set up with a 1600 cc motor with dual Weber carbs. This 85 hp motor is mated to a very rare automatic transmission which is a Borg Warner VW Type III transmission that shifts nicely. Once warmed up this Roadster will cruise all day long and has no problem keeping up at highway speeds. While this is not a high horsepower stop light racer, it istill provides lots of fun and will trun all the heads and get all the compliments and questions wherever you go. This one also has 4 wheel disc brakes for easy stopping and Independent Rear suspension ( IRS ) offering great handling. Recent service includes a top end rebuild, complete rebuild of the Weber Carburetors, new Empi Coil over shocks on all 4 corners, oil change and valve adjustment. Michelin tires with 80% tread left are wrapped around the chrome wheels with brand new Porsche emblem hub caps. In some of the pics you will see the Baby moon hub caps that were previously on this car. Engine bay is super clean. This car was always well maintained and we have quite a bit of servie history from previous owners as well. We also have the complete Intermeccanica build book with all of the specs and a detailed maintenance guide. Undercarriage looks fantastic and trunk includes spare tire. Amazingly, this replica is actually titled as a 1959 Porsche 356 Convertible. It wears an authentic 1959 Georgia license plate that the current owner will keep unless it sells to another Georgia resident.
