For Sale: 1979 Jeep CJ5 in Groveland, California

Vehicle Description

Price slashed $2,000! Well cared for and mechanically outstanding 1979 Jeep CJ-5 V8 3-speed manual with 35,450 original miles. 2-owner California Jeep with original paint, minor surface rust and no accidents. Purchased by the second owner in 1985, following a divorce in 2000 the Jeep has seen very little use other than short trips to town and has otherwise been garaged. Over this 20-year period the Jeep has been driven less than a total of 5k miles and has been regularly maintained. The Jeep has just received a tune-up by a top mechanic and runs and drives like near-new.The CJ-5A is an iconic and enduring legend; the CJ-5 has probably logged more trail miles than any other Jeep Brand vehicle. Spanning thirty years, the CJ-5 had the longest production run of any Jeep vehicle. Produced from 1955-1983, the CJ-5 was a civilian variant of the M-38A1 military Jeep, which went into production in 1952. In 1972, the wheelbase of the CJ-5 jumped to 84 inches and the length to 142.1 inches, an increase of about 7 inches. Most of the increase came from the stretching of the front section, hence the name long-nose CJ-5 for this one. In 1973 comes the Quadra-Trac system, the first automatic permanent all-wheel drive device. In 1979, the standard engine became the 258 CID (4.2 L) inline 6-cylinder that now featured a Carter BBD two-barrel carburetor, 110 hp, 195 torque. The optional 304 CID (5.0L) V8 in this Jeep provided quite a boost in power and grunt: 150 hp, 245 torque. Power Steering was required in California for the V8.A soft top and doors for the CJ-5 was optional, which this one wasn't ordered with. It comes with a brand new Bestop bikini top and brand new Smittybilt seats. Parts for CJs are endless and relatively inexpensive. A new full soft top and soft doors is about $1,000. For over 15 years we have used a body/paint shop in the Bay Area that deals mostly with dealers and wholesalers; prices are about half normal retail, and they do great quality work. If a buyer wanted to restore or partially restore this Jeep we have the resources to get it done cheaply and to a level one would be proud of.Hagerty Valuation Tools as of January 2022: #1 Concours $33,500, #2 Excellent $23,700, #3 Good $14,600. This CJ5 is very useable as-is and is a very rare example of an original, unrestored CJ-5: an extremely low-mileage time capsule. We offer this time-warp Jeep at $13,900. It is available to be shown by appointment at our display warehouse in Lockeford, near Lodi, CA. This is about 45 minutes from the Sacramento International Airport and close to the Bay Area.
