Vehicle Description
1948 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery
The Stylemaster was Chevrolet's refined, low-key sedan delivery for
1948, more closely related to Chevy's passenger car lines than to
its 3100 series light trucks. The long front fenders stretching
back into the doors, raked vee windshield, split chrome grille,
chrome bumpers and windshield surrounds marked the Fleetline as a
prestige model.
With its curbside opening rear door, its practicality in urban
delivery applications was greatly enhanced. This Fleet-liner takes
on just a bit of a custom look with its award winning Metallic
Crocodile Green paint, and gold sprayed big trimmings, along with
business advertising side panels in NY Times Black script....Note
to potential buyer, this is a great advertising schtick.... just
imagine the looks you'll get rolling up to a new client in this
baby!? Plenty of custom work on the interior, and a beautifully
presenting and robust mill, you will not waste any time getting to
your location. Service with a smile, and some eye candy to go along
with it.
Exterior
All rust free panels for this freight train from the 40's. Excess
steel for the long front fenders, which impede into the doors, then
start up in curvaceous rear fender form just behind the doors
again. A towering rounded hood is framed below in the gold painted
split massive grille and rounded bumper below. Snappy LED
headlights/signal lights are mounted into the original circular
headlight surrounds on the front of the quarters and sport a
chromed visor. Rocker trim and rear fender chip guard are also in
gold, which is a great compliment to the metallic crocodile warm
green metallic the remainder of this large paneled truck is bathed
in. On back of this tall spacious sedan like truck, is a single
curb side swinging door, with an undulating gold bumper just below.
Excellent gold painted steel wheels complete with ribbed deep-dish
chromed trim, and a central dog dish chromed cap, are wrapped by
utilitarian black walls all around, and ground the "look".
Interior
A swing of the massive doors divulges to us an interplay of
textures and surfaces covering the door panels. This includes a
crocodile green painted door sill, with a light brushed stainless
textured panel, and directly below some tuck and roll vertical
stitched panels for your armrest comfort. Below this is a checked
tweed broadcloth complimenting the exterior green/gold mayhem that
is going on all around these doors. A modern-day split back bench
in black vinyl some tuck and roll and some smooth bolsters and long
headrests provide the driver and passenger seating. The original
dash has been replaced with a brushed stainless panel, which houses
round blackface Classic Instruments and black pulls and knobs. A
sleek aftermarket Kenwood AM/FM/CD player is mounted in the center
of this custom dash, and has many speakers mounted throughout the
interior. The cargo area of this Sedan Delivery is wrapped in more
checked broadcloth tweed for the interior side panels, and gray
carpet for the floors. There is a layered "false floor" that has
additional storage below it, or you can remove this panel and add
some height to the interior cargo area. A nice tight black
headliner in matte vinyl is above. Noted the rear-view mirror now
is a convenient backup cam screen, making navigating rearward a
snap.
Drivetrain
A heave of the high bulbous hood, and we see a totally restored
engine bay with a massive 350ci V8 shoehorned into this beautiful
bay. An Edelbrock performance intake and a Holley 4-barrel
carburetor is atop, complete with an oval open air cleaner housing
in chrome. Some nicely cast ribbed valve covers, stainless braided
hoses, and a new custom radiator keeps everything all cool under
the hood. On back is a TH350 3-speed transmission in automatic
form.
Undercarriage
All sound underneath, some slight areas of peeling undercoating,
and a slight crack in one of the side rails of the frame, but
otherwise all buttoned up. This slight crack is not impeding the
structural integrity of the vehicle but is duly noted. Power disc
brakes are all around, and now independent front suspension,
Mustang II style, and leaf springs are on the back. Updated rack
and pinion steering is now installed as well.
Drive-Ability
Sitting behind the wheel of this big piece of Detroit iron make me
feel like a king of the road. She fired right up, and it was to the
test track where I would put this 48 Sedan delivery through its
paces. Here it had smooth powerful acceleration, decent handling,
good braking, and a smooth quiet highway speed cruise. The stereo
is excellent, and you can be equally entertained with the roar of
the exhaust emanating from the healthy 350 mill.
Definitely an eye catcher with its award-winning paint, and I'd
have to say pretty cool and unusual but attractive paint scheme.
Wonderful use of plenty of interior textures and surfaces, fine
mechanical upgrades, and a very healthy mill, will have this
vehicle in service for many years to come. Put it onto the budget
as advertising and deduct the entire cost. Just imagine your biz
name in that New York Times Font for all the world to see.
