1980: But beyond machinery, there is the dream--Corvette and the
open road. €" Chevrolet Corvette magazine advertisement, 1980 The
end line above was preceded with: Now 26 years young. And still
America's only production sports car. But endurance can live side
by side with improvement. For 1980, air conditioning, power
windows, and Tilt-Telescopic steering are standard equipment.
There's a bold, new front-end design with an integrated air dam. A
new rear spoiler has been built-in, and there's a new lower-profile
hood. Cornering lights have been added. The strong tradition of
Corvette roadability continues: independent front and rear
suspension, 4-wheel power disc brakes, and steel-belted radial
tires, large-diameter front stabilizer bar-all standard. Offered
here is a 1980 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe in red over black. This
third-generation American legend has been impressively maintained
and lightly used. Since new, the car has traveled 50,728 miles, or
fewer than 1,250 miles per-year on average. The Corvette's exterior
non-metallic red paint has been refreshed and exhibits excellent
condition and gloss over the entire body, including the two
removable t-top panels, the lower-front grilles, and the
Endura®-clad front and rear bumper covers. (To best assess the
quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the
close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) All
cabin glass-including the beautifully curved rear window-is clear
and undamaged. Lighting lenses are similarly damage-free; pop-up
headlights operate properly. The added side exhaust pipes deliver a
throaty burble (be sure to sample the engine music in the video
link). Other limited chrome on the body is in excellent condition
with light patina on the door handles. All factory badging-the
crossed-flags emblems on the hood, front fenders, and rear-deck
gas-filler-cap cover, and italicized corvette on the rear
fascia-remains properly mounted. Factory-original, 15-inch alloy
wheels (with crossed-flags center caps) are mounted with
raised-white-letter Regul Sport Challenger® raised-white-letter
255/60 tires. Inside, the black color theme makes for a classic
companion to the exterior red. Custom, bucket seats feature
handsome, alligator-leather-style upholstery. Cabin and cargo-area
carpeting in black is in excellent condition.
Corvette-logo-embroidered carpet mats are in place. Speakers for
the custom audio installation are arrayed across the cabin's rear
panel. Door trim incorporates both black hard plastic and carpeted
surfaces. The sport steering wheel with crossed-flags emblem and
chrome, 3-spoke design frames the twin instruments: a (government
mandated) 85-mph speedometer and 4,500-rpm-redline tachometer; a
clock and four engine-monitoring gauges are located in the
center-dash above the replacement digital push-button radio (part
of the custom audio installation) and slide-lever controls for heat
and air conditioning. The shifter for the automatic transmission
and the power-window buttons complete the console. Under the
front-hinged hood, the engine bay is clean, orderly, and free of
shine-enhancing, spray-on products. A chrome Edelbrock®-embossed
air cleaner assembly and Chevrolet-bowtie-branded valve covers add
visual impact to the 350-cubic-inch V8 (which still wears its
light-blue engine-block paint). All components, including air
conditioning, remain properly mounted. Viewed from below, the
