Vehicle Description
This 1959 Ford Thunderbird is part of the distinctive
second-generation that are larger, more powerful, and more detailed
than the first-gen cars. So this one really takes that feeling to
heart. It's a bold V8 cruiser that can turn heads, and it's offered
at a price that won't break the bank.
Colonial White is an elegant color and it also provides a great
canvas to show off all the details of this coupe. Those huge
dipping fenders, intricate trunk panel, rear fender skirts, and the
twin afterburner tail lamps are all part of a unique total package.
And all the important brightwork is complete. From the huge front
bumper with integrated grille, to the intricate dual hood
ornaments, to the form-fitting rear bumper - all of this makes for
a desirable collectible. But what we probably like the best is how
this one thoughtfully amplifies the attention to its stylish lines.
The Thunderbird logo has always had a nice pastel color for
distinction. This one uses that as a base to kick-off a full custom
pinstripe package that shows off the hood, trunk, and hardtop. And
we especially like the stripes running along the side of the body.
It allows everyone to fully appreciate some of the best items the
designers formed into the sheet metal. You see it in the crease
that runs from headlights to tail light, and the tailfin that
slowly tapers until it reaches the door handle. This is pure
rolling style.
The creamy white of the outside is continued inside, and the
pastels of the pinstripe feel like a preview of the teal they used
throughout the interior. It makes for a stylish and thoughtful
total package inside and out. As Ford's personal luxury offering,
there is plenty of individual room for four people. But even when
it's just you out for a solo drive, you'll appreciate the way the
front bucket seats and full center console make this a cruiser just
for you. There are nice details, like the working AM radio, working
dome lights, and a full trunk mat to showcase how the stand-up
full-size spare barely takes up any space in the massive cargo
area. There are even provisions for factory air conditioning.
Under the hood is a proper 352 cubic-inch V8 with a four-barrel
carburetor on top. It has a nice look in the engine bay as the
forward-tilting hood gives way to a black and white contrast with
the addition of bold blue drawing your attention to the motor. This
V8 is larger than anything offered in the first-generation
Thunderbird, and so this big block V8 has the right power and
torque to confidently move this coupe. On the road, the dual
exhaust gives a hint at the power under the hood, but the T-bird
never loses its premium composure. It floats down the boulevard as
a true vintage luxury coupe should. This is aided by the right
features such as the three-speed automatic transmission, power
steering, and modern cruising tires.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual, maintenance
records, and service manuals. You may use the extra money from the
affordable price to leave room in your budget to make improvements
like freshen up the paint or turn the factory A/C into a modern
cold-blowing unit. But overall, this is an attractive package for
being a distinctive coupe with plenty of cruising power. So if you
