Vehicle Description
1965 Ford Mustang Coupe
Mustang, Mustang, Mustang! to quote the television advertising in
1965. All the while urging you to walk on your wild side, and your
personality will go from dull to a thriller when you get behind the
wheel of a 1965 Ford Mustang!
For consignment, a mostly original version of the 1965 iconic
Mustang. A 1965 289ci V8 C code car is here for the taking. This
car has been lovingly cared for by the current consigner since the
early 1970s and actually was used to shuttle a good friend of my
crack decoder home from kindergarten in the early 1970s. Since 1977
the car was safely stored in a garage when not in use and serviced
at the local Ford dealership.
Exterior
Sporting its original side and rear window trim and glass, and
original grille, it is truly snazzy. Factory paint presents very
nicely, with just a few minor faults from inconsiderate parkers on
the doors and a large ding on the back from a parallel parking
mishap that also involves the rear bumper. The front bumper looks
as if it has also had an encounter with something stronger than the
bumper! All steel which shows some rust on the outer rockers, is
bathed in Springtime Yellow, and shows some aging with additional
paint thinning and chips at the gaps. On the pillars some invasive
rust is noted on the drip edges.
Interior
Looking inside we are met with original door panels covered black
vinyl. There are some faults on the padded armrest and lower panel
of the door on the driver's side and the passenger's side door is
good with just some rub off of the shine on the chrome trimmings.
Buckets up front and a rear bench are original and showing in
black. Black gaffer tape is covering a hole in the middle of the
driver's bucket. Black carpeting covers the floors and is faded on
the hump. The dual long eyebrow padded black dash has
instrumentation in front of the driver, and a glovebox for the
passenger. It has remained virtually unaltered since it was driven
off the showroom floor. A tight black headliner is above.
Drivetrain
Looking original and unrestored for the engine bay and inserted
289ci V8. Under the gold air cleaner covering is a 2-barrel rebuilt
carburetor. On the back is a C4 3 speed automatic with a Ford
8-inch 2.80 rear axle. Some rust on surfaces and an overall nice
patina to this engine and bay.
Undercarriage
A fine coating of surface rust is seen throughout, particularly on
the suspension and brake drums. Floor pans are solid and slightly
rusted, and the unibody is solid. Single exhaust sends spent gasses
to the rear of the car.
Drive-Ability
This car sprung right to life running on all 8 cylinders, and gave
us a real ride. All functions were working, and braking was
solid.
Keeping its original exterior, and most of the interior, this
consigner says they drive the car about 500 miles a year. Garaged
and showing some age, it will need some TLC on the exterior, and
just a few tears repainted on the interior.
