In 1954 at the GM Motorama, GM designers and engineers unveiled a
uniquely designed two-door wagon to the public to gauge consumer
reaction to its bold, forward-looking concept. Consumers absolutely
loved the car, which earned its place as one of legendary GM design
chief Harley Earl's revered "dream cars." Rather than developing an
entirely new model line to support the production wagon, Chevrolet
wisely leveraged the existing popularity of the Bel Air nameplate
and introduced the Nomad as the Bel Air Nomad - a sport wagon for
buyers seeking more space without sacrificing the prestige and
styling of Chevrolet's flagship trim. The Nomad was an instant hit,
and the nameplate would continue production on and off until 1972,
becoming one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable American
wagon designs ever produced.
The 1957 model year represents the absolute zenith of the original
Nomad concept. As the third and final year of the legendary
"Tri-Five" generation (1955-1957), the '57 Nomad combines the most
refined styling of the trio with the powerful new 283 cubic inch V8
and Chevrolet's most sophisticated chassis tuning to date.
Production numbers were limited, and survivors in genuinely
restored condition have become some of the most sought-after
collectibles in the entire Tri-Five universe.
This 1957 Nomad is nothing short of spectacular. The result of a
high-end frame-off restoration, the exterior gleams with a high
-uality finish in stunning turquoise and white - one of the most
desirable and instantly recognizable color combinations ever
applied to a Tri-Five Chevrolet. Every panel, every chrome accent,
every detail reflects the workmanship that separates a high-grade
Nomad from an ordinary restoration.
Power comes from the correct 283 cubic inch V8 backed by an
automatic transmission, with power steering and power brakes making
this Nomad an outstanding driver in modern traffic. Factory air
conditioning rounds out the package - a highly desirable original
option that transforms this wagon into a genuinely usable cruiser
regardless of the climate.
Front to back, outside to inside, this Nomad defines what a
high-end Tri-Five should be.
