Ever since the Pontiac Fiero debuted in 1984, it has always had a
cult following. It was originally conceived as a sporty, economical
2 seater option for people who wanted an American sports car with
better fuel economy. This 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT is a very nice
example, and has a little something extra to turn this sporty,
economy car into a full blown sports car. This Fiero GT is powered
by a GM fuel-injected, aluminum block 4.9 liter V8 that makes (in
stock form) 220 horsepower and 300 ft/lbs of torque. This is a huge
improvement over the 98hp that came from the factory 2.8 liter V6 .
The project of swapping the V8 into this small, 2 seater was
professionally carried out by Accelerators, Inc in Elkhart, IN.
During the build, the whole suspension was updated to the 1988
Fiero GT specs and all of the rubber bushings were replaced. The
braking system was also updated to the larger 1988 spec to help
bring this car to a safe stop with the added power and weight from
the now installed V8. Thanks to the "block hugger" headers and
custom dual exhaust, this Fiero delivers that great V8 sound that
never came from a stock Fiero. The 4.9 liter V8 runs and idles just
like it should and is very tight. Mated to the healthy V8
powerplant is the Fiero's original 5 speed manual transmission that
shifts through the gears just like it should. The Yellow exterior
of the Fiero is in great shape with few defects and no cracks in
the fiberglass. The Yellow exterior is complimented nicely by the
factory style alloy wheels, GT bumpers, factory style rear spoiler
and carbon flash metallic accents on the lower valences, side scoop
and engine cover panels. The factory interior is in great shape
with only minor defects in some of the plastic. The dash is free of
cracks and the seats have just recently been recovered. The
interior is accented nicely with some tastefully added yellow
panels to match the exterior of the Fiero. This Pontiac is equipped
with some great options including: power brakes, air conditioning
(in-op), AM/FM stereo with aux hookup, power windows, power
driver's mirror, in-dash tachometer, and tinted windows. If you are
looking for a turn-key ready classic that is as much fun to drive
as it looks or just looking for a great Fiero that will definitely
get attention at your local cruise-in, this is one car you are not
going to want to overlook.
