Vehicle Description
1999 Cadillac Escalade
Ironically, the big image boost that Cadillac worked hard to
achieve in the 1990s, didn't come from a car but actually from a
truck, the first in Cadillac history. This truck was the 1999
Cadillac Escalade, an upscale clone of the posh Yukon Denali
sport-utility wagon from the sibling division GMC. The 1999
Cadillac Escalade was an answer to the success of Lincoln's
Navigator SUV and the potential of off-shore, big SUV "wanna-be's".
Sales of full-size sport-utility vehicles were growing faster in
the late 1990s, compared to compact and midsize SUVs. The Escalade
included the Cadillac-style grille and interior trim, which used
real wood and the same leather found in Cadillac passenger
cars.
For consignment, an Escalade from 1999. This truck made it cool to
own a Cadillac again and many stars and celebs rushed to get one.
Dubbed the "Slade" many were customized and blinged out with fancy
wheels and trimmings. Our example retains its original charm with
only the wheels ramped up to 20 inches, and the remainder of the
truck is all steel and all original. And everything works!
Exterior
All pristine Olympic White like the driven snow covers the large
panels of this exterior luxury 4x4. Gaps are nicely minded, and
dark tinted glass is on all sides and back. A running board is
covered with some black rubber and an integrated aero design roof
rack is up on top. Body matching mirrors and matching bumpers of
neoprene can be seen on front and back. The grille is very simple
and there is a bug guard on top of the hood. A tow package is on
back with a wide chromed bar for extra protection for the rear
bumper. 20-inch shiny thin spoked wheels are wrapped by blackwall
rubber all around. An add on is a fancier chromed covering for the
now LED taillights. There are slide on trailer mirrors that will
come with this luxury liner and a digital brake controller for the
trailer.
Interior
Luxurious and padded, molded and lacquered veneer panels make up
the sculpted door panels. Within are the window and power lock
toggles, and on the driver's door a mirror adjuster for driver and
passenger mirrors. Inside overstuffed power adjustable bucket seats
are covered in gracefully aged tan leather. These flank a large
center console with cup holders and more storage. The clean dashes
molded tan plastic with some lacquered wood inserts and a black
gauge insert. In the center reside more controls for the temp,
wipers and 2 and 4 wheel drive selection. A digital BOSE
AM/FM/Cassette player and a separate CD player is neatly inserted
into this part of the dash as well. A split folding rear bench is
way in the back and way back is a wonderfully clean carpeted
storage bed. This area is accessible with a tailgate and lifting
window for the upper, so plenty of access for this area. And you
can fold down the seats if you need more. Clean carpeting
throughout and above is an upper control panel that controls
lighting and garage door programming and just a touch more storage
for sunglasses etc.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a nicely detailed and clean 5.7 liter V8. It has
EFI and a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission on the back. Front
and rear differential setups are a 2.73 geared axle.
Undercarriage
Seen in this clean rust-free environment are new brakes recently
put on, new shocks and the rear ones are air shocks, and consigner
states a new steering pump and steering components have been
serviced and replaced if needed. Independent front suspension with
torsion bars, and on back 4 link with coil springs provides the
smooth ride. Power disc braking is on front and power drums for the
back.
Drive-Ability
In the lap of luxury I was for my test drive. I set the temperature
for cold and it got there quickly. As did the movement of this big
4x4 with plenty of power and even more conveniences, and good solid
handling and braking was effortless and bias free on the panic
stop.
A nice example from 1999, all clean surfaces, good paint, and the
interior is fancy to say the least. 20-inch wheels and the Cadillac
suspension nearly made me fall asleep, but I digress and finished
the test drive feeling actually refreshed. A neat vehicle you could
go to a fancy ball or take a backwoods trail and it can definitely
handle both! We give you the "Slade"...
