1989 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

made or done to order for a particular customer. "a custom
Corvette"
And now for something completely different on the Corvette front,
for consignment we offer up a 1967 style modified body placed on a
1989 chassis. This one-of-a-kind creation has a modified front
grille, stinger hood, 67 trunk deck and rear roll pan, low profile
tires and is truly one of a kind.
Exterior
In keeping with the design of the original 67 'Vette the fiberglass
body for the front end has been retained. From the stinger hood
down through a horizontal ribbed grille takes over and it has
rectangular head lighting behind this grille. The fiberglass bezels
for the turn signals remain. Now the entire front end of the car
lifts forward rather than just the hood. As we move back, the front
quarter has been widened at the rocker, and retains the shark gills
on the front quarter. The doors have been lengthened and the back
of the car retains the 67 style trunk deck and rear taillights.
This creation rod bathed in blue and has a saddle tan canvas
convertible top. 18-inch for the front and 19 inch rear polished
modern 5 spoke wheels with low profile rubber are on all 4 corners.
If you think James Bond, you would be in the ballpark with the
design of this car.
Interior
A swing of the futuristic doors and we see more saddle tan molded
plastic and gold carpeting making up the more modern door panels.
The 1980's abound inside here with saddle leather covered high back
buckets with larger side bolsters to grab you when you take a fast
turn. A center console with a storage box, and shift lever, cup
holders and lighter works its way up to a totally 1980s style
digital dash. Push button technology for the climate controls, an
aftermarket Clarion AM/FM/CD/USB capable Bluetooth head unit is
installed in the center rise of the dash, and a digital warning
light screen is seen just above. The gauges are all digital display
and an 80's Corvette steering wheel fronts this digital display
dash. Gold carpeting covers the floors and sides of the center
console.
Drivetrain
Lifting the entire front end reveals a 350ci V8 complete with EFI
and a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. The rear axle weighs in
at a 2.59 ratio.
Undercarriage
The underside is making full use of the 1989 chassis, floor pans,
rockers and suspension. No rust is seen, and it's been fully
restored. The front suspension is making use of a single fiberglass
mono leaf transverse spring with unequal length aluminum control
arms and stabilizer bar. For the rear we have a fully independent 5
link system with transverse fiberglass single leaf springs,
aluminum upper/lower training links and a strut tire rod assembly.
Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
Runs like a Corvette, and handles like a Corvette with good
handling and acceleration not seen on a typical '67 'Vette.
Unfortunately, the radio, instrument cluster, heater blower and
temp controls and drivers power seat are inoperable.
An interesting mix of 60's and 80's technology with a custom front
grille and headlight setup, and some modification on the front hood
using 67 and 89 designs. It's like the Beatles have become a hair
band!
