Vehicle Description
1968 Chevrolet Impala SS
The impala is one of the most common and most graceful of all
Africa's antelopes. A slender, agile creature, it can clear
formidable obstacles and run at speeds faster than 60km/h. They are
fleet runners who can leap up to 30 feet in length and 10 feet in
height. They use their tremendous speed and agility to avoid
predation, and seemingly for pure enjoyment. The name 'Impala'
comes from the Zulu language meaning 'gazelle'. Aptly named, the
Chevrolet version introduced in 1958, continued to emulate its
animal namesake through years of design modifications, and power
options made available.
For consignment, a full complete restoration right down to the now
powder coated frame. This car can be gone over with a fine-tooth
comb, and you will be very hard pressed to find a fault. Every
aspect of this car is showroom!
Exterior
Long straight rust-free steel panels are minding their gaps very
nicely. From the long hood framed below buy a pristine grille
containing dual headlights and a shiny bumper running through the
egg crate grille, back to all the seriously dark tinted glass
surrounds, all the way to the gently sloping rear deck which ends
in a trio of inset lights into the rear bumper. Miles deep red
paint combines with the like new chrome trimmings, and it's all
framed by Cragar polished 5-spoke wheels wrapped by Cooper Cobra
radial G/T's. All badging is excellent. Chrome tipped dual exhaust
is peeking out from under the bumper.
Interior
Opening the doors and black straight molded vinyl with some thin
chromed accenting and black knobbed cranks are on these panels.
Inside floating in a sea of black carpeting are beautiful low back
bucket seats draped in smooth black vinyl bolsters with red tuck
and roll inserts. The rear bench stretching across the back of the
car has the same pattern. The buckets sit within a black molded
plastic tub with some thin chromed accenting. A perfectly formed
center console races to the dash between the buckets and houses a
chromed ball topped shifter. The dash is all original and in clean
GM form. Dash top shows no cracks or dimples and above the
headliner is near perfection.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in a showroom clean and detailed engine bay, sits a
327ci V8 and it just gleams. It is topped with a 4-barrel
carburetor and has a 4-speed manual Saginaw transmission on back. A
12-bolt 3.08 rear axle is on as well. All hoses are braided
stainless steel, an aluminum radiator is installed. and the mill
exhales through headers. All parts and bolt ons are like new
throughout.
Undercarriage
The frame has been stripped and blasted, then repainted in a
perfect black. All floor pans, rockers, wheel wells and
underpinnings are bathed in the red of the exterior. No road dirt
is present, and independent front suspension, and a 4 link with
coil springs is on back. Power drum brakes are on all 4 corners and
a Turbo muffler system is now on.
Drive-Ability
This car is an awesome build and the test drive did not disappoint.
Ran like a dream, and all functions were working perfectly. Need I
say more?!
