Vehicle Description
1970 Chevrolet Pickup Custom 10
It's no secret that Chevrolet builds some of the most celebrated
trucks on the planet. From the AK era forward, every generation has
found a solid following and, eventually, firm footing in the
collector car world. Over the past few years, we've featured plenty
of vintage, ground-pounding bowties, and this righteous red ride is
just the latest in a series of sweet C/K head turners.
For consignment, a wonderful example of the C-10 pickup truck from
1970 and Chevrolet. Bathed in red with a nice shiny belt line and
rocker trim bars, a covered bed and a gleaming engine bay, 1970
never looked so good!
Exterior
All metal bodywork was sanded to straight lines with gap minding
precision, then all bathed in beautifully applied red paint and
retaining the original form it was born with in 1970. Speaking of
original, the bowtie badged hood and chromed grille are all nicely
preserved. All window surrounds are framed with immaculate chrome
as are the side view mirrors hanging off the doors. A nice tight
bed cover in black vinyl is protecting whatever you decide to store
and haul underneath it from the elements. In the bed there is a
wood fabricated bin, and a rubber protective padded mat on the
floor. Paint on the bed and floors is also very nicely applied and
shows no rust. 15-inch Chevrolet rally style wheels with deep trim
rings on their edges are wrapped in raised white lettered rubber on
all 4 corners.
Interior
A swing of the doors and we see a molded black center panel for the
door, armrest and knobs and levers. A Sheridan pattern is running
across the top of this panel, and it also has a small frame of
chrome just inside its edge. Red steel is framing this black door
panel. The original bench has been pulled and a newer bench in a
red velour broadcloth for its inserts and shiny black bolsters in
vinyl are all bordered by red piping. The original 1970 C-10 dash
is a mixture of body matching red background and black plastic for
the instrument cluster which includes the rally gauges including a
tachometer from the factory. A GM Delco retro style radio is
residing in the center of the dash. Note, this truck is equipped
with factory A/C. Fronting the dash is the original steering wheel.
Above we can note a shiny framed black tuck and roll headliner
panel. Clean black carpet floods the floors and adds a nice
grounding to the beautifully fashioned seats.
Drivetrain
Under the hood within the perfectly restored engine bay all shiny
and red, is a 402ci V8 with a carefully painted orange/red block.
Within this block a mild cam has been installed. On top is an
Edelbrock single 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold. A TH400 3
speed automatic is on back with a 3.73 rear. Nice shiny supple
hoses and orange/red valve coverings and a chromed open air cleaner
covering add to the eye candy.
Undercarriage
Putting this truck up on the lift yields an undercarriage just as
impressive as the topside. No rust, appearing to have been blasted,
neatly painted in black light texture paint. Just beautifully
performed and showing like new. Independent coil spring suspension
upfront, and a 3-link coil spring suspension on back. Dual exhaust
with glasspack style mufflers are now on. Power disc brakes for the
front, and power drums for the back. Undersides of rockers are also
like new, as are the underside of the doors that interlock with the
thresholds.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, exceptionally smooth runner and good power, with
bias free panic stopping, solid handling, and a great cruise speed
ride. All quiet on the western front during the test period, and
all working functions left this writer very impressed.
An original 1970 workhorse/show truck. Great color choice, wheels,
bed, interior, well you get the picture! A true one of a kind yet
looking just as the rest did in 1970. Very good! Very Iconic.
