Bustleback Beauty - 1985 Cadillac Seville €" Hemmings Classic Car,
December 2010 Hemmings writer, Jeff Koch, continued: ... hidden
beneath that retro styling was one of GM's most technologically
savvy chassis ever. It was front-wheel drive, of course, a
by-product of sharing parts with the new-for-1979 Eldorado. But
four-wheel independent suspension wasn't something that GM messed
with much beyond the Corvette; torsion bars replaced coil springs
in front, presumably to allow the transaxle's half-shafts greater
leeway in their movement, while anti-roll bars were fitted front
and rear. Electronic suspension leveling was part of the package
from the outset, as were four-wheel disc brakes. Save for the
front-wheel drive aspects, the chassis' equipment list reads like
that of a German sedan that would have cost 50 percent more.
Offered here in white over blue under a blue vinyl top is a 1985
Cadillac Seville. Original and in well-maintained condition, this
luxury car is a true product of the Eighties, and remains
impressive today in its style and options. Showing 94,604 miles on
its odometer, this survivor Seville has traveled just over 2,600
miles per-year on average since new. The car's exterior white paint
retains excellent gloss; it has clearly been kept out of the sun
and weather. Chrome bumpers and body trim are likewise glossy and
undamaged; door handles, body-side trim, window surrounds,
Cadillac-branded side mirrors, and twin rear faux hold-down straps
on the bustleback are all in very presentable condition. The
impressive front grille-with its CS and Cadillac-script emblems
makes a powerful design statement. (To best assess the quality of
the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up
photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Body-panel fit
and alignment is excellent, and sheet metal is free of dings and
dents. It's evident the car was prized by its prior owners. The
blue vinyl top is also free of wear, rips, or other damage.
Tasteful factory identification-including script-Seville
right-front-fender and rear deck-lid badges-is properly in place.
Steel wheels feature (faux-wire-wheel-style) full chrome wheel
covers with center Cadillac emblems on a deep red background.
Michelin® XH4 all-season thin-whitewall tires are mounted. Inside,
the color theme is deep blue, and the emphasis is on luxurious
comfort. Front and rear seats are upholstered in deeply tufted blue
velour with Cadillac emblems embroidered in the backrests at all
seating positions. Rear occupants have access to storage pockets in
the front seatbacks. Door trim combines dark blue velour with
embroidered script-Seville identification, blue leather armrests,
wood trim, and dark blue carpet on the lower panels. Cabin
carpeting is also dark blue. The blue padded dashboard incorporates
instruments and vehicle controls in a square-design,
woodgrain-trimmed presentation; the two-spoke steering wheel
features a Cadillac emblem set on a square, woodgrain-trimmed
center. The shift lever for the automatic transmission is mounted
on the steering column. The car's trunk is generally tidy but with
a tear in the carpet and another on the spare-tire cover noted. The
trunk lid does not stay open without support. Under the hood, the
original 4.1-liter V8 is in place in a properly ordered but not
detailed engine bay. All components-including air conditioning-are
mounted, and no modifications are noted. Viewed from below, most
