Javelin 290 SST 79-K Karmann
History:
The car was assembled in Germany by Karmann and is one of the 280 produced. A very rare car and hard to find. Visit https://www.american-motors.de/en/karmann/ for more information on the Karmann Javelin.
This car was new and purchased in Holland by my Grandpa in 1970. It is a 1969 model. Original bill is available (see photo). The car is already 50 years in the family and has approx. 122,000 km (76K miles).
Bodywork:
The floor panels and wheel arches are replaced in 2011 (see photo’s). The car was sprayed in 2K epoxy primer and finished in white as original. Trunk had some bad spots and repaired.
Paint is reasonable condition, although some small scratches.
Vinyl was replaced, has some small burning spots (see photo’s).
Open roof was option and installed by import company (HAI, Holland American Import Company).
Engine:
Car drives good, and the automatic transmission shifts fine. Numbers are not checked but should be matching. Alternator is recently replaced.
Motor bearing and timing chain, as well as the oil seal are replaced in 2015, not driven much since. Small oil leakage from the top, most likely valve covers.
4-piston calipers (Brake command) are overhauled with stainless steel cylinders.
Interior:
Bucket seats have new linings, these come from AMC lives, USA. Floor carpet is also renewed.
Left window does not work: The wndow must be fitted again in the window holder (glued as original). Mechanism is ok.
As the car is over 50 years old, it is advised to inspect the car. Car is located in the Netherlands, Rotterdam. Inspection by expert company possible. Will ship the car worldwide at buyers costs.
