Vehicle Description
As most muscle car enthusiasts know, government emission controls
and insurance premiums were continuing to skyrocket throughout the
1960's. So by the early 1970's, the end was growing near for anyone
looking for true American horsepower under the hood! This makes the
1971 model year uniquely desirable for many serious collectors who
hunt for real performance before it was lost forever!
We are excited to offer this 1971 Oldsmobile 442 convertible
finished in code correct 75- Matador Red over 977- White bucket
seat interior and matching A- White convertible top. This beautiful
car comes loaded with nearly every option one would want to order!
This includes a Rocket 455ci V8-4 bbl/ 340 horsepower engine with
factory W25 Outside Air Induction hood, W26 sport console with
Hurst dual gate shifted Turbo-Hydromatic 400 automatic

Only 1,304 Oldsmobile 442 convertibles were produced in 1971 making
them incredibly rare and highly collectible! The engine is a period
correct, non-matching 455ci block (396021F), correct "G" heads
(409100), and factory exhaust manifolds "W" & "Z". It retains a
cast iron Oldsmobile intake now fitted with Holley 750cfm
performance carburetor. It was built new the 2nd week of March
after completion out of the Lansing, MI plant with its early life
unknown, but later landed in the hands of a mechanic and collector
in the Cincinnati, Ohio area where it was restored and enjoyed for
many years. After he passed away in 2012, the family would sell it
to his longtime friend who would retain ownership until just
earlier this year.
Upon arrival to the St Louis Car Museum, this exceptionally solid
442 Convertible would receive a full mechanical inspection and
servicing having been driven just 2,700 miles over the past 9
years. This included a comprehensive repair of the air conditioning
system to include a new condenser, receiver dryer, fresh hose and
fittings, new o-rings, and conversion to R134a refrigerant. The
engine received new engine oil & filter, all new coolant, a new
windshield washer bottle, and thorough detailing. All lighting and
safety items were checked, new stainless steel wiper blades
installed, chassis lubed, and the tires rebalanced for what remains
to be an incredibly nice road car!
With powered convenience features, air conditioning, and comfort
from over-stuffed bucket seats, these 442's were considered for
good reason as "the gentleman's muscle car." It will undoubtedly
continue to increase in value in the years to come! Please feel
free to call with any additional questions! Thanks for looking!
