This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 is a real deal big block "138"
car! Initially debuting in 1964, the Chevelle was introduced by
Chevrolet as a mid-size option between the compact Chevy II and
full size Biscaynes, Bel Airs, and Impalas. In 1966, the highly
successful Chevelle was completely redesigned featuring new forward
thrusting front fenders, new body lines, a wider-looking front
grille, and new look rear end. 1966 also marked the first time that
the Chevelle SS 396 was offered for the full year, whereas the '65
SS 396 was a mid-year only option. The SS 396 was the Chevelle's
performance-oriented package with a simulated twin air intake hood,
an SS specific grille, special Super Sport and 396 trim, and more.
This particular Big Block Super Sport comes to us from New Mexico
where it spent the past 10+ years. Under the hood is a 396 Cubic
Inch V8 engine paired with a single 4 barrel carburetor that
delivers plenty of Big Block power. The 396 V8 is hooked up to a
Muncie M20 4 Speed Manual Transmission which makes this Chevelle SS
an absolute blast to drive. Upgraded front disc brakes with a dual
master cylinder provide ample stopping power for all of that muscle
under the hood. This Chevelle Super Sport is also equipped with
power steering which makes getting in and out of tight spaces much
easier and was a $84 option back in 1966. The exterior on this
classic Chevy has been beautifully refinished in its original
color, Regal Red. Sitting on upgraded Eagle Alloy Wheels with
205/60R16 Radial Tires in front and 225/50R16 Radials in the rear,
this Big Block Chevelle has a great stance, a fantastic look, and
wonderful ride. The interior in this Chevrolet Chevelle SS is
absolutely stunning! The optional front bucket seats and rear bench
seat have been reupholstered in black vinyl, which is just how the
car was when it rolled off the line at the Atlanta assembly plant.
This classic Chevy muscle car is also equipped with the optional
center console with a built in clock as well, giving the interior a
truly elevated look. The dash, door panels and steering wheel all
appear to be in wonderful shape and in their stock configuration.
The recessed dash is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer and fuel
gauge, along with an accessory tachometer and radio. A trifecta of
Autogage accessory gauges, including an oil pressure gauge, volt
gauge, and water temperature gauge, are neatly tucked under the
dash as well. Whether you're looking for your very first classic
