For Sale: 1987 Chevrolet Blazer in Ft Worth, Texas

Vehicle Description

We sell a lot of C- and K-series Chevy pickups, but not so many K5 Blazers like this slick 1987 Chevrolet K5 4x4 Silverado example. Why? Perhaps it's because they made a fraction as many of these as they did pickup trucks. Maybe a lot of them were just used as intended and just got used up along the way. Or maybe it's just because their owners love them so much they're unwilling to let them go.

Whatever the reason, it's easy to see why these trucks remain perennial favorites for off-road fans. The chiseled good looks are obviously based on the pickup trucks, but there's so much more to a Blazer than just a pickup with a cap. The proportions are exactly right and when rendered in fresh blue paint, it's a big, high-visibility piece of 4x4 hardware that looks tough enough to climb a mountain. It appears that this one was very recently repainted with a strong, driver-quality basecoat/clearcoat finish, which looks quite authentic and doesn't detract from the truck's purposeful look. There's not a lot of adornment on the sides of the body, so it looks sleek, and the black painted top gives it a unified look, unlike the usual white top that can be somewhat jarring to look at. The billet front grille looks aggressive and is framed by bright stainless trim, modern LED lights, a heavy-duty chrome bumper, and even the original hood ornament up top. It's definitely got the right look.

The gray interior has been upgraded, and that's never a bad thing if you're familiar with the uncomfortable original interiors these Chevy's were born with. The former owners of this K5 basically swapped-in the next generation (OBS) Blazer's front buckets up front and left the comfortable stock rear bench seat out back, and a custom center console was neatly trimmed with black vinyl and installed up front. The seats are comfortable and clean, there are stock black door panels at the flanks, a matching Silverado dash pad up ahead, and the carpets, are... unique, to say the least. It appears the floors have been lined with the same cloth materials found on those durable moving blankets you get when you rent a moving truck, and although they may look a little strange, they actually get the job done. The entire cabin has a few signs of use throughout, but overall this truck continues to impress us with its preservation. The factory gauges still offer bright markings, the steering wheel is stock, and even the cargo area shows well with standard carpet, custom side panels, and a full-size spare. Features include factory A/C, power windows and locks, a tilt wheel, and an upgraded retro-style AM/FM/AUX stereo system. The top is indeed removable and there's something special about a topless blazer on a sunny day, making it easy to imagine taking this truck to the beach or to your favorite remote spot.

The engine is GM's tried-and-true 350 cubic inch V8 topped with the stock throttle body fuel injection (TBI) set-up that make these '87 models particularly more valuable. It's easy to spot with that chrome Edelbrock air cleaner and the engine bay is shockingly clean for a 35-year-old truck. Despite being a 350 Chevy, it's mostly stock, with long-tube headers and newer A/C components being the most obvious deviations, and it starts easily and runs smoothly with good torque that moves the big truck without ever feeling like it's working hard. Backed by a smooth-shifting 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission, this big 4x4 actually does pretty well on the highway and with a 2-speed transfer case and heavy-duty axles, it also has the hardware to crawl through some pretty rough terrain. Thanks to a dual Flowmaster exhaust system that still carries catalytic convertors, the exhaust has a pleasant V8 sound that's muted enough to make this a favorite long-distance cruiser and it sits right on American Racing wheels with big 33x12.5x15 BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain radials that fill the wheel wells perfectly.

Look for these trucks to become a lot more popular in coming years as values on early Broncos skyrocket. And that's not even taking into account just how much fun these are to drive. Call today!
