Vehicle Description
Attractive restoration in great colors. Beautiful new interior.
12-volt electrical system, otherwise completely stock. Runs and
drives very well, recently serviced, refinished wood bed. An
appealing Advance Design pickup ready to enjoy! If you've been
looking around, you surely realize that Chevy's Advance Design
pickups of the late '40s and early '50s are some of the hottest
trucks on the market. That's easy to understand; they're
attractive, functional, easy to maintain, and fun to drive.
Fortunately, someone has already done all the heavy lifting for you
with this one, turning it into arguably the finest example we've
ever featured. The paint is dark turquoise, so it straddles the
fence between blue and green (the photos capture it pretty well),
and that gives this vintage truck an appropriate look, especially
with black fenders. It's quite solid and clean, with doors that
close easily and that giant clamshell hood latches down without a
fight. Finish quality is excellent, with a deep shine to the finish
that only comes from a lot of time invested in the prep and polish
work-this isn't a cut-rate truck job. It's also quite nicely
dressed, offering chrome bumpers and grille, accessory fog lights,
and a beautifully refinished oak bed floor that's probably too nice
for cargo duty. You'll also note dual mirrors for safety, step
plates on the running boards, and dual taillights for today's
traffic (only the left taillight was standard on these trucks).
Big, bold white CHEVROLET lettering on the tailgate reminds
everyone who built this awesome truck. The interior was recently
refinished in upscale green cloth and vinyl that looks
period-appropriate but provides quite a bit more comfort than the
original vinyl. Matching dark green carpets help with noise and
heat, making this 3100 a comfortable cruiser in a way that many of
its siblings are not. The rest of the controls are standard
Chevrolet, from the twin round gauge pods (all gauges are
operational) to the 3-speed manual shifter on the column. That big
steering wheel makes it easy to maneuver the truck even without
power steering. Auxiliary switches for the fog lights are under the
dash and someone has thoughtfully added turn signals, a smart idea
in today's world. There is no radio due to the 12-volt conversion
but it would be easy to add one, and there is a modern
heater/defroster unit with dial controls under the dash. Even the
headliner is beautifully finished to match-nobody was cutting
corners on this truck! The engine is Chevy's familiar 216 cubic inch
inline-6, which served faithfully in various configurations for
decades. It's torquey, smooth, reliable, and extremely easy to
service with great parts availability, making the 3100 a fantastic
choice for a hobby vehicle. This one is nicely detailed with
correct blue engine enamel, a single downdraft carburetor with oil
bath air cleaner, and a factory distributor. The lone modification
is the alternator in place of the original generator, and some
fresh wiring to accommodate the 12-volt electrical system. With 12
volts running through it, the starter spins with vigor and the
engine fires off easily, settling into an easy idle without any
drama. On the road, it pulls to 50 MPH and cruises easily around
town where it feels energetic and agile. The 3-speed manual
transmission shifts easily and has light clutch action, so it's
hardly a chore to drive and the manual 4-wheel hydraulic brakes are
plenty powerful for the truck's modest performance. Underneath
you'll find a new exhaust system with the right 6-cylinder grumble,
newer tube shocks at both ends, and recently serviced brakes with
new lines and wheel cylinders. Cab corners are excellent and the
floors are not rusty, although it appears that it was once modified
for a floor shift transmission and then returned to stock-no harm
there. Correct 16-inch steel wheels wear hubcaps and accessory trim
rings, plus a set of flashy 6.00-16 BFGoodrich Silvertown wide
whitewall tires that really dress the truck up nicely. If you've
been watching prices on these trucks, you know they're only going
up. This one is available for far less than the cost of bringing a
project up to this level and it can be enjoyed immediately. We love
these trucks and seriously considered keeping this one for
ourselves-that's how nice it is. Give us a call today and we'll
tell you all about it!Harwood Motors always recommends and welcomes
