special class coupe, this C126 Mercedes-Benz from 1991. This
example is one of only 2,138 560 SEC models made in 1991, the car?s
final model year. The previous Arizona owner took loving care of
this car since 2010 and the car is sold on a clean Carfax. Made in
May 1991 at Mercedes-Benz?s Sindelfingen, Germany factory, this big
Benz is finished in Smoke Silver Metallic (code 702). The paint and
trim are in overall very good order but there are a few paint chips
visible on the leading edge of the hood and front bumper. The car?s
body carries a drag coefficient of 0.34, which was quite good for
such a large coupe 30 years ago. The body is solid, the cargo area
is clean and engine bay is extremely tidy. The car?s body-colored
bumpers fit tightly to the body. This Benz rolls on Michelin
Primacy MXV4 radials, size 205/65R15 at every corner. Each one is
mounted onto a BBS aluminum alloy wheel. The wheels present with
some scrapes and blemishes while the tires are in very good
condition. Under the hood is a 5.5L SOHC all-aluminum V-8 engine
(code M117) with Bosch KE electronic fuel injection. The motor is
linked to a four-speed automatic transmission (code 4G-TRONIC).
This car received a new distributor cap, spark plugs and ignition
wiring in 2021. Driver convenience features include electronic
climate control (code 581), power rack-and-pinion steering, power
four-wheel disc brakes, sunroof (code 412), power windows, cruise
control, power locks, power sideview mirrors, power and heated
front seats (code 873) with memory and power antenna. The
refrigerant in the car?s air-conditioning system was converted to
R134a in 2021, according to the previous owner. Safety equipment
includes dual front airbags (code 291), anti-lock brakes, traction
control, anti-theft system (code 551) and headlight wipers. The
car?s beige leather interior (code 265) is believed to be original.
The front buckets and rear seats look very good overall, with some
minor wear visible on the driver?s side seat bolsters as testimony
to enjoying the car. The matching headliner and four-spoke steering
wheel are in fine shape. The brown-over-tan dashboard offer color
contrast and looks great while the inner door liners have held up
well. The center console, dash and door panels all have burled
walnut accents, and there is a crack in the one on the driver?s
door. The console and console-mounted shift lever all look great
and a factory AM/FM stereo with cassette deck and six speakers
completes the interior. The W126 class carried a bevy of firsts in
multiple facets: ?Use of high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) sheet
steel? ?Standard anti-lock brakes ?Seatbelt pre-tensioners ?Front
and rear crumple zones ?Fluted taillamps to maintain visibility
even when dirty ?Dual front airbags ?Traction control and center
high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) ?Courtesy lights on the doors?
underside to see the pavement when exiting the vehicle at night
?Rear reading lamps ?Exterior temperature sensor with LC display
?World?s first seat belt presenters ?Haptic power seat switches
?Factory theft-deterrent system ?Topographical sensor in the
four-speed automatic transmission + throttle pedal position ?First
trip computer option Competition to this Benz in 1991 included
Aston Martin?s Virage, Audi?s Coupe, Ford?s Thunderbird Super
Coupe, Jaguar?s XJ-S and Porsche?s 928. Documentation includes
original leather zippered binder containing original owner?s
manual, original stereo guide, original dealer directory for U.S.,
Canada, original car care guide and more. Grand tourers like this
one seem to come along once in a generation. This big Benz was the
pinnacle of engineering and style to some people, which is what
helps it maintain its allure after three decades. Stop by
