Vehicle Description
This 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible restomod is what a cool
custom classic is all about. It takes a true icon and upgrades it
with a fuel-injected LS1 V8, four-wheel disc brakes, and an
overdrive transmission.
And then it wraps the full upgraded package in an award-worthy
triple-black presentation.
A Firebird is already quite a cool classic, but this one takes it
to a whole new level. The black paint has a deep luster that lets
you know there was a big investment here. In fact, the full
frame-off restoration was completed only about 3,400 miles ago. The
iconic beak-like front end has a terrific shine; the body panels
remain crisp; and there is a beautiful new back roof. So the look
here is better than new. Plus, there are all the right factory
sporty details, like the dual hood scoops, a chin spoiler, and rear
fender vent trim. But his car goes well beyond getting the vintage
pieces right. Those Coys 18-inch alloys have a 10,000-watt shine
and they let you see the red caliper peeking through up front. And
those headlights are not only crystal clear, but they have LED
halos that you control the color with an app. So can't you just see
this all-black Firebird having menacing red eyes as it's coming
down the road?
With the flip of a switch, the top powers down to reveal the full
black interior. So the exterior, roof, and interior come together
to give you the ultra-desirable triple-black upgrade. Speaking of
upgrades, the front bucket seats offer better bolstering than you
could ever get in the 1960s. And plush carpeting, good door panels,
and a smooth dash make for quite an inviting car. It has the right
cruiser upgrades, too. You have provisions for air conditioning
(has a compressor, but the system will need to be completed and
charged) a Retrosound AM/FM/digital tuner w/Bluetooth, and an
awesome upgraded speaker system that will have you opening the
trunk wherever you park just to show off the full custom subwoofer
enclosure. Plus, with a center console, floor shifter, wood-rimmed
steering wheel, and a full Dakota Digital gauge package upgrade,
you know this was built to be a driver's car.
The heart of this dark machine is an upgraded fuel-injected
5.7-liter LS1. You'll love popping the hood at all the car shows
and watching everyone marvel at a modern V8 is such a classic
machine. Beyond just advancing generations of a GM motor, this one
has been upgraded further with go-fast goodies. The V8 has a Big
Mouth throttle body, FAST LSXR 102mm intake, and headers feeding
the H-pipe dual exhaust. You'll also sport good supporting pieces,
like a Griffin aluminum radiator, dual electric fans, and the
battery moved to the trunk for better weight distribution. The
power package is said to make 385 horsepower, and the full setup is
made to let you enjoy it to the fullest. That's why the upgraded
four-speed automatic transmission has overdrive for easy cruising
and a shift kit to give you firm changes during performance
driving. It feeds a limited-slip rear end with 4.11 gears for
confident and powerful take-offs. Plus, the suspension has been
upgraded with Totally Tubular upper and lower front control arms,
rear performance leaf springs, and Hotchkis subframe connectors.
Control is also well-in-hand thanks to power steering, grippy Nitto
ZR-rated performance tires, and four-wheel power disc brakes
upgraded with drilled & slotted rotors.
