Hemmings Motor News, July 2014 Hemmings described more of the '35 Ford's appeal: The 1935 Ford took a while for fans of the V-8 era to recognize its collectability. Hot-rodders were drawn to the 1932-1934 Fords, which are very difficult to find today without some sort of modification made to them. The 1935, though, was often overlooked but began to make strides among collectors who came to recognize it as a well-built car that could move pretty quickly and featured an attractive design. Offered here is a 1935 Ford Business Coupe in black over black-and-gray. Its odometer shows just 538 miles since the car was fully customized as a period hot rod. The exterior paint is matte-black showing a hint of shine as opposed to the more common-and less interesting-no-gloss flat-black. The finish has been professionally applied, uniform and free of imperfections. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Fenders and bumpers have been removed front and rear, so the flowing lines of the coupe body (particularly its rear deck) are emphasized; the classic '35 front grille retains its stock appearance. A pin-striped center design in gray adorns the rear deck. Minimal chrome-on the side mirror, jumping-cat hood ornament, door handles, and trim surrounding the original taillights-is in excellent condition. The side engine-access panels have also been removed leaving excellent views of the flathead V8 behind the hood belt-straps. Original wire wheels in gloss black wear V8-embossed chrome hubcaps and trim rings. Blackwall period-correct tires are mounted. Inside, new, low-back bucket seats are upholstered in black leather with gray pleated inserts. The same design is present on the door panels. Cabin floors are carpeted in black with carpet mats in place. The dashboard is a design showpiece incorporating chrome-trimmed gauges and center trim piece on body-color-matched painted metal with gray pinstriped accents. The steering wheel is a stock, 3-spoke (banjo style) black unit with a V8-embossed center emblem. Classic Instruments® gauges replace the stock versions while an original-style center speedometer has been retained. A Rocket Tach® unit is mounted below the dash. The shift lever for the 5-speed manual transmission is floor-mounted and capped with an 11-ball knob. Under the hood, the flathead V8 is period-performance perfection wearing Offenhauser® heads, twin single-barrel carburetors, Ford-blue engine-block paint, and matte-black exhaust headers. Perfectly ordered with spotless surfaces and trim throughout, the engine bay is an impressive sight. Viewed from below, the chassis, components, and lower-engine views are no less impressive. The side-exit straight exhaust is a focal point in both appearance and sound. (Be sure to sample the exhaust note in the accompanying video link.) While the more than 135 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '35 Ford in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.
