Vehicle Description
2012 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport
A familiar face was behind the Grand Sport, one Zora Arkus-Duntov.
The Corvette's first ever lead engineer, along with racer Briggs
Cunningham, entered three nearly stock Corvettes in the 24 Hours of
Le Mans. The Corvettes had been upgraded with 283 "Fuelie" engines,
mechanically supplying fuel injection. The Corvette upset the
Europeans in the large GT class, placing first and eighth overall.
The Corvette shared the podium with Ferrari, Aston Martin and
Porsche. RED colored duct tape was slapped on hoods/fenders so pit
crews could easily identify which driver was in which of three 1963
Grand Sport Corvettes, from a distance. As they say the rest is
history, and why the stripes are there.
Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Chevrolet, this car takes the
cake for its special Carlisle Blue paint which is one of only 243
Vette Grand Sport Coupes made for this year in this color. A one
owner, all original car with its dealer installed hash marks in
red, and a body design that was taking on a more European exotic
car look than the traditional Corvette. Oh, and a mere 5,669 actual
miles.
Exterior
This low slung wide design with integrated headlights, no chrome,
and a Corvette cove with sharklike gills in front, is bathed in
special edition Carlisle Blue metallic. A raked back windscreen and
wrap- around rear glass greenhouse window which lands just before
the tall back all neoprene bumper less rear with 4 inset round
taillights, and a quad of centered exhaust tips. 18- and 19-inch
wheels are wrapped in good treaded rubber, and tinted glass is all
around. Note the headlights and fog lights have clear X-pel
protectors installed which protects them up to 100mph.
Interior
Charcoal gray leather covers sculpted seats and some molded door
panel inserts. Q wide center console races forward and has a
spacious glovebox and an industrial looking short shift knob. As we
rise upward in the center a digital display keeps track of the
climate control, and just above is an AM/FM/Multi CD player that
puts out a killer sound. Plenty of other power conveniences are
available, most controls reside in the door panels or the steering
wheel which includes paddle shifters. Black carpeting with red edge
piping covers all flopper surfaces and the rear cargo area under
the greenhouse glass.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a showroom condition engine bay and a 6.2 Liter
376ci LS3 V8. This mill rates at 430hp, is fed by EFI and has a
6L80E 6-speed automatic attached. The rear axle weighs in at
2.56.
Undercarriage
Pristine with plenty of cast aluminum parts for the suspension and
none have any corrosion. 4 wheel power disc brakes, and a clean
dual exhaust original to this car are on.
Drive-Ability
Our test track was no match for this machine as it handles like
it's on rails, and has neck snapping acceleration. Bias free panic
stopping to bring you back to earth after your launch. All
functions were working perfectly.
A low, low mileage Grand Sport Edition of the 2012 Corvette. Pluck
it right out of our hallowed halls and put it onto your driveway,
but enjoy it often
