Vehicle Description
1988 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Myron E. Scott went to work for Chevrolet in 1937, as an assistant
director for the Public Relations department, where he was
responsible for photography of new cars, designing of press kits,
graphics, and special events. He was also known for being the
creator of the All-American Soap Box Derby. After winning a contest
with 300 submissions, Myron thought the name Corvette rolled off
the tongue well and thought a tie to the fast strike ships called
"Corvettes" from World War II would appeal to the American men,
many who had served. This would go on to form the foundation for
the nautical names that would be applied to Corvettes and concepts
such as the Mako Shark and Sting Ray (later to be used as
Stingray).
For consignment, a very nice example of a 1988 Corvette which was a
year in which Corvette was celebrating its 35 anniversary. Bathed
in black with a black canvas convertible top, and 350 souped up
cubes awaiting your command to fire up, now is your chance to get
into the classic car game and you are starting near the top with
this classic Corvette from the late 80's.
Exterior
Black like a formal tuxedo bathes the fiberglass sculpted exterior.
Badging is all correct, as well as working hidden headlights. Black
plastic trimming wraps entirely around this car at the midline and
creates a nice texture to the body. A new black canvas convertible
top gives you the ability to go topless or drive in the rain with
it up. A nice fiberglass rear top covering hides the top when in
the down position. On the back are the round taillights deeply
inset within the neoprene rear bumper and rear roll pan. Quad
exhaust tips are showing off at the bottom of this bumper. Standard
5 spoke 17-inch shiny wheels are noted on all 4 corners and there
are no curbing marks on these.
Interior
Near perfect red carpet floods the floors, and the back trunk area,
and it is a deep, deep red, in very good condition. Red leather
buckets, showing as original, have minimal wear with the usual fold
lines that come with use. These buckets contain controls for the
power activation of them within the bolsters of the seats and flank
a red center console/black topped forward top panel where the
shifter is located. This also houses the controls for power
windows, and exterior mirrors, shift lever for the 4+3 Doug Nash
manual transmission, climate control, AM/FM/CD and a data center
with a screen to display information regarding gas mileage, service
warnings and other key components of the car. An all digital
cluster of gauges in colorful form all working like new are fronted
by a black rimmed rally style steering wheel.
Drivetrain
The heavy hitting 350ci V8 L98 small block now sports a
Lingenfelter 211/219 camshaft, and Edelbrock aluminum heads. Crane
roller rockers are also now inside, as is a Lingenfelter intake
manifold, and a Procharger P600B model. Headers are now on for the
exhale. Backing all this power up is a Doug Nash 4+3 Overdrive
transmission. This mill dyno in at 409.8hp!
Undercarriage
C4 suspension is clean, showing a slight patina on the aluminum
cast suspension. Unibody and floor pans are all very sound. Power
disc brakes are on all 4's.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and good runner this car presented nicely and
definitely fast. A/C is R-12 and blows cold. Neck snapping
acceleration and a fine runner for sure. I noticed the engine likes
to surge when the A/C is blowing, but everything was all buttoned
up.
We are in the game here with a nice looking and well cared for 35
celebratory year "Vette. A real celebration in total style of the
sporty car Harley Earl thought up 35 years ago. And the legend
continues...Happy Anniversary!! Put your foot down, pass the cop
and get a ticket!
