Vehicle Description
1975 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
The 1975 Chevy Corvette, along with the automotive industry as a
whole, would experience a significant transformation at the onset
of the new model year. Because of serious health issues and
environmental contamination associated with the use of lead fuel,
it was determined that the automotive industry would - and should -
phase it out. Tetraethyllead, (also known as TTL, or simply
"lead"), was introduced in the 1920's as an additive to prevent
fuel from auto-igniting in high compression internal combustion
engines. While the lead additives allowed engine designers to
produce more powerful, higher compression engines, it also produced
a dangerous neurotoxin through exhaust emissions, which resulted in
many cases of acute, and widespread lead poisoning, especially in
children.
For consignment, a nice version of the 1975 C3 Corvette. A great
entry level car to get you into the Corvette game, it's in good
condition and provides a sporty ride, while with the emissions
regulations kicking in horsepower was limited. But then you could
save gas!
Exterior
Fiberglass bathed in Dark Red Metallic paint is seen in its
sculpted final form and does a great job of covering this rolling
work of art. A convertible top in white canvas, and neoprene
bumpers with hidden headlights in front, curvaceous fenders all
around this coke bottle design pony car. On the back the rounded
slightly pointed rear roll panel is one of this writer's favorite
years and this retains the round deep set taillights. Chrome
trimmings are seen surrounding the glass. A shiny stainless steel
rocker trim is curving on to bridge the gap between the fenders and
the doors. A cove is in the front quarter and harkens back to the
early Vettes. 15 inch rally deep dish wheels are on all 4 corners
and dual exhaust peek out from underneath the smoothed over rear
bumper with 2 black rubber inserts..
Interior
To go with the dark red exterior, oxblood leather is wrapping the
surfaces of the interior. High back thinly styled buckets with a
center console racing forward to the top of the angled molded dash.
Deep set gauges front the original steering wheel, and red
carpeting very clean floods the floors. Door panels use wood
applique as well as some red carpeting that matches the floors.
There is some wood applique on the console surrounding the shifter
and climate control wheels. Moving up in the center, a 5 gauge
cluster with some warning lights are all with a black panel. Like a
sweet maraschino cherry floating in a soda pop this Vette is a
stunner.
Drivetrain
Opening the hood we are bowled over by the orange/red GM block and
polished chrome valve covers of this 350ci L82 V8 numbers matching
mill. During an engine rebuild our consigner decided to put a bit
of performance enhancers within the confines of this 350 so we can
report a Comp Cam XR270HR with .495i/.503e lift and a 218i/224e
duration @ .050, Comp Roller Tipped Rockers are also in. Dyno
results have this engine weighing in at 356.7 horses. Nicely
detailed and presentable, it has some extra chromed bling bolts. A
single 4 barrel carburetor is atop, and on back is a numbers
matching T10 4 speed manual transmission coupled with a 3.55 rear
axle.
Undercarriage
Very nicely preserved underneath with an overall patina for the
floor pans, rockers and other bolt ons underneath. Full Independent
SLA type with coil springs is the suspension and includes several
cast aluminum components for extra weight loss. Suspension parts
appear to have been recently replaced as the suspension is all
shiny and black with little road dirt. Power disc brakes are on all
4's.
Drive-Ability
She fired right up and on the test track it performed beautifully.
Nice smooth acceleration, smooth shifting and good brakes. It
handles like it's on rails and the convertible is a nice feature to
have some wind in your hair. All functions were in working
order.
A rounded rear version from 1975, in nice condition mechanically, a
good solid exterior, striking oxblood interior, all wrapped up in a
neat C3 package. A great top down cruiser, here is your chance to
get into the Corvette game. Is there a little bug getting ready to
bite??? This life is a bowl of Maraschino cherries.
