This 2001 Dale Earnhardt edition Silverado 1500 has a story like no other car.
This Silverado was originally purchased by Richard Sturtz. Mr. Sturtz was chosen to take part in the Winston "No Bull 5" program sponsored by R.J. Reynolds. This program paired 5 luck race fans whose tickets were drawn to compete in a skeet shooting competition to be paired with a race driver. If the driver they were paired with won on race day, both the driver and the fan would win $1,000,000. Richard Sturtz was a Dale Earnhardt fan since 1980, and was floored when his outcome in the competition paired him with his favorite driver. Race day came at Talladega and team owner Richard Childress came to Dale and Richard and told them "You two are going to win a lot of money." The race would become known as one of Dale Earnhardt's most incredible wins ever, and what would turn out to be his last. The day after the race, Dale called Richard and asked what he planned on doing with all of the money. Richard mentioned buying a Silverado Dale Earnhardt special edition as a way of remembering the amazing time they had, and his connection to Dale. Richard made the arrangements for his truck with Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet of Newton, NC. Two weeks later, Dale invited Richard and his wife to Dale Earnhardt Inc. to have lunch with the Earnhardt family and to see his new truck. To Richard's surprise, Dale had special features added to the truck for Richard, including his signature on the dash. He also arranged to have the truck delivered directly to Richard's house in Maryland.
