Vehicle Description
1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Convertible
The Chevy Chevelle is a vehicle we hold near and dear to our
hearts. It's an iconic muscle car that led the pack during its
time. If you love the Chevelle as much as we do, you'll probably be
interested in these fun Chevelle facts: 1. The Chevelle was built
in 10 different plants in two countries during its 10 year run. 2.
Surprisingly, the Chevelle shared a platform with both the Monte
Carlo and the El Camino. 3. There was a version of the Chevelle
only available in Canada that had a slightly different grille and
trim. It was called the Pontiac Beaumont. 4. The Chevelle was the
intended successor of the Tri-Five but ended up carving out its own
place in Chevy history.
For consignment a 1969 version of the Chevrolet Chevelle SS now
fitted with a 402ci V8, 4-speed Muncie with a Hurst shifter,
12-bolt rear with 3.31 posi gears, and Hotchkis sway bars and
bushings. All in LeMans Blue coating and looking sharp!
Exterior
The it year to have for the Chevelle SS 1969 and this one is true
to form bathed in LeMans Blue which cosigner describes as not
perfect but certainly up to snuff. A rakish front grille and dual
headlights with a trim accentuating that diving down and to the
back of the car from the edge of the headlights. This trimming then
runs rearward just above the rocker and to the rear wheel well. A
larger two-pointed spear runs along the beltline and is in white
from stem to stern. The canvas convertible top is also in white and
looking in good condition. When it's down a white tonneau covering
hides it securely behind the rear bench. Badging is correct, and on
the back just below the wide and long rear trunk deck are angled
taillights on either rear quarter with another nice bumper below
and some trimming and SS badging in between. 14-inch Magnum 500
wheels are on all 4 corners and are all wrapped in Cooper Cobra
raised white lettered tires.
Interior
Here we gaze upon a wood rimmed steering wheel fronting a rally
gauge dash sporting a tachometer that redlines at 5500 rpm, a
possible indicator this car is a true SS. Instruments are clean and
neatly preserved within a black dash front. A/C is within this
interior realms along with a retro newer AM/FM radio is neatly
installed. As for the seating arrangement, nicely curved semi high
back buckets with a headrest all in parchment, (off white), vinyl,
as well as a rear bench is seen in the same patterning back. A
center console is in, and a Hurst shifter rises proudly from the
center of it. Round Astro Ventilation vents pepper the dash, and
the top is padded blue shiny vinyl totally un-marred. Below
flooding the floors is a black carping which remains like new and
very clean.
Drivetrain
Now appearing under the hood is a 402ci V8 which is not original to
this car but has more than adequate horsepower. It has the correct
red/orange block paint, shiny chrome valve covers, and a single
4-barrel carburetor on top. A 4-speed manual transmission in Muncie
form is on back and power gets pushed rearward to a CCF stamped
12-bolt 3.31 posi-traction rear. All is very nicely cleaned and
detailed for this engine bay.
Undercarriage
Just a great job on the restoration of the undercarriage, straight
rust free black painted steel frame, blue floor pans, and
suspension which is noted has Hotchkis Sway bars and bushings.
Brakes are power disc for the front and power drums for the rear. A
Magnaflow dual exhaust is aiding the exhale form the 402 cubes.
Drive-Ability
A smile on my muscle car partner in crime aficionado's face says it
all after his test drive. "He Likes It!..Hey Mikey... He reported a
quick fire up, good handling, solid braking, and awe-inspiring
acceleration. It was like being in an all new 1969 car, as
everything save for the A/C which proved to blow warm, worked just
great.
If you are in the market for a nice Chevelle SS from this Muscle
era, then this is certainly a turn key adventure for you. All the
work has been meticulously performed, and get in and go. It's that
easy, and you'll be looking great to boot, all in LeMans Blue.
