Few motorsport partnerships can draw attention like Porsche and
ANDIAL, combining the German manufacturer's prestigious racing cars
with the performance shop's motorsport know-how and ingenuity. With
their relationship spanning multiple decades, Porsche often turned
to ANDIAL for optimization of components for their race cars. From
engines to suspension components, the Santa Ana performance shop
was known as an industry leader and an expert in motorsports
applications. It should come as no surprise that ANDIAL would
eventually breathe some of their talent into Porsche's street cars,
and this 1996 Porsche 993 Turbo with an upgraded 3.8-liter motor is
one of those rare finds. The car on offer here is the culmination
of these two legendary brands coming together.
First registered in late of 1995 in New Jersey, the original owner
had the car until it sold in 1998. The car was acquired by Dieter
Inzenhofer, one of the founders of ANDIAL. Dieter would purchase
the car in May for his personal use and brought it to the ANDIAL
workshop in southern California.
During this time, ANDIAL purchased over a period of time
twenty-four 993 Turbo's to be modified, one of which was owned by
Dieter. The 993 originally came with the twin-turbo 3.6-liter flat
six engine producing a total of 408hp/398lb/ft torque. This
astonishing number made the 993 Turbo one of the fastest cars
during the mid 90's. ANDIAL wanted to make this car better, and
even faster. They set to upgrade the suspension and engine to
accomplish this goal. The engine displacement was bumped up from
3.6 to 3.8, ANDIAL installed 102mm Mahle pistons and ported
cylinders heads, along with the Carrillo connecting rods. Using
additional OEM parts, they added twin ignition along with euro RS
cams. The turbo system was upgraded to GT1 Turbos, along with the
sport intercooler. ANDIAL also installed a single mass sport
clutch. The engine was blueprinted and balanced before
installation.
This 3.8 engine was dyno-tested with a single Bosch ECU system
producing 571 HP. The car was originally tuned for 91-92 octane
pump gas, but it has a dial to turn up the power to an incredible
626 HP utilizing 100+ octane unleaded fuel. With this higher
increase in power, ANDIAL added Billstein sport suspension shocks
along with Eibach coil springs. The combination of both of these
upgrades, makes this ANDIAL 993 Turbo a perfect balance between
power and handling.
Dieter parted with this very special Porsche 993 Turbo in 2015.
Ultimately it was received in the collection of a well-known
Porsche fanatic, collector, and racer. During his ownership, the
car has been modified to include custom three way JRZ dampers with
remote gas reservoirs.
When the car arrived at Canepa, it was clear that the car presents
in fantastic condition and looks and performs as if it only had a
quarter of the miles. Without wasting time, the 993 Turbo was given
the Canepa Difference, where it received a complete mechanical
inspection and servicing it as needed. Then it received a
concours-level detailing top to bottom, ensuring that every surface
was spotless and that each surface presented as new.
This ANDIAL 993 Turbo offers the next buyer a unique opportunity to
own a piece of history. With ANDIAL becoming a part of Porsche
Motorsports North America in 2013, this 911 represents a time when
the company was still an independent performance shop, that Porsche
trusted and respected. With enough turbocharged power on tap to
satisfy any air-cooled aficionado, this Porsche 993 from ANDIAL is
the ultimate "Turbo".
