As the only Shelby-licensed replica of the original 1965 Cobra,
this roadster's sublime Superformance body utilizes high quality,
hand-laminated fiberglass to create a rock-solid drop-top that
provides a first-rate driving experience. Naturally, those stiffly
reinforced panels feature the smooth surfaces and typically tight
gaps we've come to expect from top tier Cobra replicas. And those
clean aesthetics found rich Indigo Blue two-stage under a roster of
show-stopping details.
At the front of the car, an aggressive yet familiar nose-clip hangs
stainless-trimmed headlights over polished Quick Lifts and
bullet-style marker lamps. A rivet-lined hood anchors a small scoop
in front of locking latches and polished stainless wipers. Behind
those blades, Superformance-branded glass tilts clear wind wings
and dark-tint visors between polished roll bars and a polished,
bullet-style mirror. At the sides of the car, polished air
extractors complement tasteful fender emblems and a familiar,
Monza-style fuel filler. And at the back of the car, stacked tail
lamps join a chrome tag light to illuminate a locking trunk handle
and two more polished Quick Lifts.
BLUE OVAL BRAWN
Check this classic's tidy engine bay and you'll find 351 cubic
inches of proven Ford power! That storied mill roars to life when a
polished Ford Motorsport air cleaner drops air into a coated Holley
4-barrel. That pot rides a proven Edelbrock Performer 351-W intake,
which feeds lightweight Ford SVO heads. Those heads tilt trick Ford
Racing valve covers and a polished Ford Motorsport breather over
rowdy, long-tube headers, which feed brightly coated side-pipes.
Fires get lit by a hot MSD Blaster 2 coil, which jolts an MSD
Pro-Billet distributor and loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires.
Body matched serpentine components spin an aluminum water pump next
to a modern alternator. And cooling comes courtesy of a big
aluminum radiator and requisite puller fans.
ENJOY THE DRIVE
Rule number one of hot rodding: an excellent drivetrain isn't worth
the metal it's built from unless it's paired with a competent
chassis. Behind this Cobra's hot powerplant, a proven Tremec
5-speed, tamed by a smooth hydraulic clutch, spins a familiar
8.8-inch axle that ensures whiplash-inducing acceleration while
still allowing the car to loaf along at highway speeds. That taut
drivetrain rides a Superformance heavy wall Jig-welded frame, which
is married to a fully independent Superformance suspension. Turns
come courtesy of manual rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are
provided by power-assisted discs at all four corners that, thanks
to this car's featherweight construction, are virtually impervious
to fade. And power meets the pavement through attractive Knock-Off
Wheels, which twist 255/60R15 Cooper Cobra Radial G/Ts in front of
275/60R15 Nitto NT555R Extreme Drags.
THE ESSENCE OF ROADSTER
Between the doors, it's all purpose all the time, as monochromatic
leather and fade-free carpet culminate in a simple yet attractive
driving environment. Front and center, deep buckets pin soft pleats
between three-point R.J.S. Racing harnesses and flashy
Superformance floor mats. Looking forward, a leather-clad dash
props an appropriate combination of Smiths and Lucas telemetry
under a color-keyed top and a polished mirror. An angled shifter
joins a polished E-brake between leather door panels, polished door
latches and a polished fire extinguisher. And the driver carves
curves through a polished and wood-rimmed steering wheel.
