personality, the Eldorado provided everything that one could ever
desire in an automobile. -OPUMO, U.K. design site, December 2015
The people at Hagerty Media captured the late-seventies Eldorado
zeitgeist: Yes, 1976 was a grand year for Cadillac, with giant lux
yachts roaming the earth. Each of these fantastic, plush,
open-topped conveyances turned in a curb weight of 5153 pounds and
an overall length of a smidge over 224 inches. And all 1976
Eldorados... sported an impressive 8.2-liter, 500-cubic-inch V-8.
Most breathed through a four-barrel Quadrajet carburetor. The 1976
Eldorado was to be the last year of the General Motors convertible
as Edward C. Kennard, Cadillac's general manager proclaimed in a
press release on April 21, 1976. While Cadillac would later reverse
its decision, and to this day has introduced any number of
drop-tops, there would never be another convertible as grand as the
'76 Eldorado. In that sense, this is very much a historic
automobile. The stunning red over white leather Eldorado
convertible with white fabric, power-operated top offered here
perfectly represents this iconic American-luxury model. With just
42,676 miles on its odometer-fewer than 1,000 miles per-year on
average since new-the car's condition is absolutely pristine. The
Firethorn Metallic (code 36) red exterior paint retains very good
gloss, not least of all on the long expanse of hood over which the
driver enjoys a commanding view of the road. The convertible top
stores beneath a power-operated boot. White double-line pinstriping
extends from the front fender, across the doors, and onto the rear
deck where the stripes from both sides meet. (To best assess the
quality of the paint and chrome finish, be sure to view the
close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) All
factory exterior badging is in place, properly mounted, and in
excellent condition. Chrome bumpers, front grille, windshield
surround, Cadillac-branded mirrors (incorporating both shiny chrome
and brushed surfaces), and door handles are all in excellent,
well-maintained condition. Lighting lenses are clear and free of
cracks. Whitewall tires and original full factory wheel covers are
mounted. Inside, the tufted white-leather displays a like-new
appearance and feel, free of damage or even much evidence of
regular-use wear. Front and rear seat passengers enjoy the same
luxurious standard. (Front seats are power-adjustable.) In similar
fashion, the condition of the door trim-which incorporates white
leather, red carpeting, styled woodgrain trim, and woodgrain
pull-handles-is excellent. Cabin floor covering is rich, dark-red,
cut-pile premium carpeting protected by Cadillac-logo matching
carpet mats. The expansive red vinyl padded dashboard includes four
air-conditioning vents; a full-width textured-woodgrain trim piece
enhances the lower dash. Power-top controls are mounted on the dash
and the factory AM-FM stereo radio remains mounted. A red steering
wheel with handsome parquet-woodgrain trim and Cadillac-logo center
frames both a 100-mph speedometer and the automatic-transmission
gear indicator. Under that expansive hood, the massive
500-cubic-inch V8 powerplant (with dark-blue-painted valve covers
and stock black air-cleaner) commands an engine compartment which
is complete and clean but not excessively detailed. Expected, very
light surface rust is present on some m
