We just acquired this real 1969 Chevelle SS396 from the friend of
the longtime owner and builder who passed a few years ago. We were
told that this car was a real L78 (396/375) car and but upon
further inspection we believe that NOT to be true however in our
professional opinion it is a real SS396 Chevelle ! CHECK IT OUT !!
This car is an older restoration that has a super straight solid
and clean body that is mostly original including the floors, trunk
& frame. We did find a few replacement patch panels in the floors
and both 1/4 panels behind the rear wheels, all of which have been
professionally installed. It was painted in "Tuxedo Black" in
lacquer and overall looks really good. The sides (fenders ,doors,
1/4's) are beautiful, straight, slick and smooth with a show car
shine however the top sides, (hood, roof & deck lid) have multiple
spider cracks throughout the paint. They are hard to see but in the
right light you can point them out however they do shine really
nice. From 2 feet away it looks awesome but up close you can see
it's imperfections. It does have very nice chrome, trim, weather
stripping and glass and the black bench seat interior is in "like
new" condition including the seats, carpets, door panels, headliner
and dash. It is VERY-VERY NICE !! Power comes from a super healthy
running/sounding 454 c.i. big block. We are not 100% sure about
it's internals but i can tell you that it hits hard as nails and
runs super strong ! It does have rectangle port heads, an aluminum
intake with a 750 Holley carb and big tube headers with flow master
dual exhaust. It is backed up by a crisp shifting TH-400 automatic
transmission with a 2500 rpm stall convertor and a "JK" code rear
which is a 12 bolt posi with 3:55 gears that was only factory
installed in a 375h.p. L78 1969 Chevelle. Also the rear is dated
correct for this car which is probably why we were told that this
is a real L78 car. Other features include power steering, power
disc brakes, new 15x7 magnesium 5 spoke SS wheels with B.F.G.
tires. Also, the steering and suspension look to have been recently
replaced which is probably why it drives so tight. This 1969
Chevelle Super Sport is an excellent "driver quality" car that
runs, rides & drives really nice and even with it's paint
imperfections still looks really good too.
Priced to sell !!
