beautiful BUY of all! €" Chevrolet 1949 magazine advertisement The
MotorCities.com website provides the 1949 story: 1949 was the year
that the big three auto manufacturers introduced their 'post war'
styling models to the automotive buying public. Ford, along with
Chrysler and General Motors, all offered totally new designs, and
Chevrolet was in front of the line with its all-new designs and
features. In fact, automotive historians have said that the 1949
Chevrolets ranked among the year's best-looking low-priced cars.
There were two new body Styles, the Fleetline and the Styleline,
with 14 new models including De Luxe and Special versions. The
Deluxe Styleline two-door sedan offered great styling and a price
tag of $1,492. The Styleline DeLuxe sport coupe was another great
looking model that also was a hit with the public. This model could
accommodate six passengers for short trips to the grocery store or
long rides on the highway out to the country for a family vacation.
Offered here is a 1949 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe in Silver Gray
over light tan. Sold brand new at Taylor Chevrolet Sales in Walled
Lake, Michigan on August 19th, 1949, this historic Chevy has been
owned by the same family (now in its fourth generation) since new
and has received regular maintenance. The result of this sort of
owner commitment and care is a time-capsule: a nearly showroom-new
1949 automobile more than 70 years later. The car's odometer shows
63,258 miles, or fewer than 900 miles per year since new. The car's
exterior finish displays even gloss across every panel. The color
is remarkable. There is no damage to any sheet metal. Chrome trim
is in exceptional condition with very light patina on some
surfaces. The front grille is a very appealing design that
influenced countless other models and every Chevrolet for years to
come. Chrome window and rear-fender-top trim is especially handsome
and adds flair to the rounded surfaces and roofline. Restrained
factory badging-including the hood ornament and bowtie emblem,
hubcap bowtie emblems, DeLuxe script fender badging, and trunk
emblem (matching the front bowtie design)-is all in place and in
very well-maintained condition. Cabin glass and all lighting lenses
(including the well-designed taillights) is clear and uncracked.
Wide-whitewall tires are mounted on the factory steel wheels. The
cloth interior in complementing shades of tan has been as
well-maintained as the exterior. Door trim in dark and light tan
cloth features a stylized, horizontal design with thin chrome
accents. Vertically thin-striped two-tone tan and darker brown
cloth shows little wear. The only noteworthy flaw is a small tear
in the fabric on the front-passenger folding seatback. The
beautifully designed brown steering wheel includes chrome trim and
a blue-and-gold bowtie-logo center emblem and a chrome horn ring.
The slide lever controls for the then-optional heater are mounted
below the dash. A large 100-mph speedometer faces the driver on the
two-tone dashboard with simple chromed controls, vertical chrome
trim, and an analog clock continuing a lovely art-deco look that
must have wowed customers after the spartan war years on the home
front. The car's trunk is clean with two
