Vehicle Description
1968 1/2 Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet For Sale - Numbers Matching 428
Cobra Jet LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1968 1/2 Ford
Mustang 428 Cobra Jet. In 1968 Ford introduced an engine option for
the Mustang that would be able to compete or even beat the stiff
competition being put up on the streets by the Camaro, Firebird,
Darts, and Cudas. The 427 V8, Ford's near race ready engine which
they would tune down to 390HP, was originally selected to be engine
of choice but the high cost and slim availability made it struggle
for success. Mid-year Ford would change the engine of choice to the
428 Cobra Jet that put out an estimated 410HP. With this bigger
engine came many other performance upgrades. Many Blue Oval
enthusiasts would claim that the Mustang 428 CJ was the quickest
car of the muscle car era. This 1968 Ford Mustang was built at the
Dearborn Assembly Plant on July 18th, 1968. It was delivered to Don
Casterline Ford Inc in Croswell, Michigan wearing the highly
collectible "R" code Highland Green exterior paint finish. This
rare mustang came from the factory with the newly available
optional "R" code 428 Cobra Jet engine, also factory optioned with
the RUG-AE Close Ratio 4-Speed Manual Transmission and bulletproof
Ford 9 inch raer end. These cars had factory upgraded front shock
towers and staggered rear shocks on the four speed 428 CJs. Some
other factory options that this Mustang left Dearborn with were the
GT Equipment Group, Traction-Lok Differential, Sport Deck Rear
Seat, Console, Power Steering, Am Radio and Power Disc Brakes. This
Cobra Jet remained in the original owner's possession from 1968
until 2000 and remains today in exceptional unrestored condition.
Under the hood, its still powered by the numbers matching 428 Cobra
Jet engine. This 1968 Ford Mustang stands above most other Mustangs
because of its rare numbers matching 428 Cobra Jet engine and
factory optioned 4 speed manual transmission. Included in the sale
is the deluxe Marti report, reproduction window sticker, Marti vin
breakdown, ownership history, period photographs, owner's manual
and more. Furthering its authenticity, this example is registered
in the 428 Cobra Jet registry. '681/2 Mustang CJ cars are very
sought after, quite collectible and a wonderful addition for anyone
looking to add a piece of Ford history to their collection.
