Squarebody trucks like this 1984 Chevrolet C10 Silverado are very
popular and super collectable these days, so much so that we sure
have a hard time keeping them in stock (people tell me that's
called one of those 'good' problems). With a great color
combination, a powerful 350 V8, and a bevy of factory options, it's
a wonderful example of one of the most popular vintage trucks on
the road today.
The short bed/regular cab setup gives any pickup a sporty demeanor,
but these late-70s, early-80s Chevys have really nailed the look.
Dressed in two-tone Apple Red and Doeskin Tan, this one looks less
like a working-class jobsite fixture and more like something you'd
want to drive every day and show off on a Saturday night. The
driver-quality paint and bodywork undoubtedly helps with that
attitude, and the clean lines of the original truck are easy to
love. It appears to be a mixture of original and older repaint and
has a very authentic look, offering a shine that's appropriate to
the era and it's not subject to the body issues that plague so many
of the other GM models of the period. Orange pinstripes play the
line of demarcation role perfectly as a needed buffer between the
two shades, and although there are certainly some imperfections,
this dialed-in driver still looks great cruising down Main Street.
Silverado trim added some stainless along the flanks as well as
chrome bumpers fore and aft, the tail panel trim still adorns the
tailgate and the bed rails are atop the bed, providing the perfect
amount of bling to this two-tone truck. A black spray-in bedliner
was applied inside the bed, so not only does it look good (or it
will after a wash), but it's also tough enough to handle some
heavy-duty loading.
The original style interior is very tasteful in factory maroon,
with what's likely the original cover on the very comfortable bench
seat, a matching crack-free dash pad, and Silverado-spec door
panels at the flanks that do show wear, but are solid nonetheless.
In fact, that's the name of the game throughout the cab, where
everything appears to be original, therefore some light patina and
signs of use in the heavier traffic areas (like the color-keyed
carpets) are found throughout, but nevertheless it's a comfortable
place to spend some time. And this isn't some stripped-down work
truck, this is a Sequoia Special Silverado loaded with options like
factory A/C, power windows and locks, electronic cruise control,
and Comfor-tilt steering column that still holds the original
steering wheel atop it, all of which make this Box Chevy pickup a
true pleasure to drive. There's a full complement of factory gauges
ahead of the driver that keep an eye on the engine's vitals, and
entertainment comes via an AM/FM/Cassette stereo that's still in
the center of the dash. Likely tinted glass is factory-spec, as is
the sliding rear window, so A/C isn't always necessarily needed on
a hot day.
An uber-dependable 350 V8 is plenty to get this truck moving and to
haul just about anything that'll fit in the bed. With decent
horsepower and plenty of torque, this powerplant really scoots
around town easily thanks to the help of the 4-barrel carburetor
and stock intake running the show up top, and it has a great muscle
car V8 soundtrack to go with it. The engine bay is neatly detailed
and organized, including a black open-element air cleaner, black
Chevrolet valve covers, and a set of long-tube headers that feed
the upgraded dual exhaust below thanks to newer chambered mufflers
with turn-downs just ahead of the rear axle. Turn the key and it
starts easily, which is what you'd expect from a small block Chevy,
and it feels like a far younger vehicle from behind the wheel. Much
of that is due to the well-kept factory suspension that features
upgraded shocks front and rear that help with the handles and the
raked stance you see in our photos. A 700R4 4-speed automatic
transmission spins a 10-bolt rear end filled with standard 2.73
gears out back, making highway cruising easy and relatively
efficient, and power steering and power front disc brakes reinforce
that very point. Stock Rally wheels adorned with beauty rings and
Bowtie center caps add to the vintage look, and they wear 235/75/15
white-letter Toyo radials with plenty of grip left.
Dialed-in, looking clean, and ready for the road right now, this
