For Sale: 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle in Ft Worth, Texas

Vehicle Description

1970 was the pinnacle year for the Chevrolet Chevelle, offering a long list of options and powertrains to suit just about any buyer's tastes. There were even two different sizes of big block SS models, with this attractive hardtop packing its numbers-matching 396 L34 V8, a formidable performer that was also very user-friendly. Attractive colors, a dialed-in restoration, and the perfect balance of show and go, this is a great car just waiting for its next chance to show off.

Cortez Silver is this A-body's original color, so when the time came to bring it back up to snuff, they didn't hesitate and put that gorgeous shade right back on. Of course, that was only after all the panels were straightened and aligned just right, and the primer was blocked to eliminate any imperfections before the Silver and clearcoat was laid down on top. There's a deep luster and plenty of shine in the finish so it really glows in the sunlight and proper SS stripes are part of the package. The paint and bodywork look fairly recent, and it's obvious this car has been stored away in a hermetically sealed box when it wasn't out dropping jaws at the local car show circuit. Sure, it's not perfect, you have to clear over six-figures to get that, but it's well above average for a top driver-quality rig, with only the most minor of imperfections to be found. The black vinyl top gives this brawler a grown-up look, but there's certainly no mistaking this beauty for Grandma's grocery-getter. Correct SS features like the cowl hood and the blacked-out grille were faithfully reinstalled, and all the bright pieces were either polished, re-chromed, or replaced during the build, so it sparkles today. For fans of big block power in a slick, ready-to-go package, this Chevelle SS really delivers.

This beauty also received a full restoration inside, where the original black vinyl upholstery was faithfully restored and expertly reinstalled. Bucket seats and a center console weren't standard in the SS, but probably should have been and a majority of owners (including this one according to the factory buildsheet) ordered them that way. The high-end upholstery is in excellent condition and correctly mimics the factory work, and for those of you looking to spot a fake, we can tell you with confidence that this is a real-deal SS, and it has the round gauges in the instrument panel to prove it. The horseshoe shifter is easy to use and looks awfully cool in the center console, and for authenticity's sake, they even kept the original AM/FM radio in the dash. A duo of aftermarket gauges were added under the dash, but those lone upgrades are certainly forgivable in a car like this, especially since it begs to be driven every chance you get. The trunk mat may very well be original, and it also includes a full-sized spare with jack assembly.

That's the original, numbers-matching L34 396 cubic inch V8 with a factory rating of 350 horsepower. Correct decals adorn the bright chrome air cleaner and that's factory-correct Chevy Orange engine enamel on the block. It's a stock and original presentation, which means the builders knew what they were doing during the restoration, and it's so darn clean it provides us a glimpse of what this car looked like sitting in the showroom in 1970. The big block is fed through a Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor atop an Edelbrock Performer intake, and it breathes easy through a set of long-tube headers that feeds the throaty Flowmaster dual exhaust system below. And my goodness is this big motor running smooth, with plenty of pop up and down the throttle whenever you need it. The 396 is mated to original TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that spins what are likely the original G94 3.31 gears inside the 12-bolt rear end, while the original F41 suspension has been beautifully restored and the entire undercarriage was finished to show-off with great pride. This sucker is solid and clean as can be. Power steering and power front disc brakes are original to the car and vastly improve its road manners, and the rolling stock currently rides on a flashy set of American Racing Torque Thrust polished alloys wrapped in 225/50/17 front and 255/50/17 rear Nitto performance radials. But if those wheels are too shiny for your liking, the original set of Magnum 500 SS wheels wrapped in white-letter radials come with the sale.

Documentation includes an original build sheet, owner's manual, and Protect-O-Plate, so you know this gorgeous SS is legitimate. If you appreciate originality and are the sort who understands why these A-bodies are special, this 1970 Chevelle is an amazing find. Call today!
