Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1966 Porsche 912. Finished
in Polo Red, the included Kardex confirms original numbers-matching
engine and transmission, as well as correct original color. This is
a nice topside car with an older repaint that has held up well and
retains a nice shine. Mostly original trim shows light patina
throughout (there is light pitting on the horn grilles, as noted in
the close-up photos, but we have not observed any pitting,
corrosion or rust bubbles anywhere else). Many early 912 details
such as the correct solid-backed bumperettes remain. Date-correct
steel wheels are wearing older Michelin X radials (the tires hold
air but are due for replacement before extensive touring). Prior
rust repairs in the front pan, floors, rockers and torsion bar
areas are structurally sound but were not performed to a concours
standard.
Black interior is clean and presents to a good driver standard -
either original or last refurbished some time ago, if feels lived
in but not worn out. We always appreciate the simplicity of the
instrumentation in these early three-gauges cars (gauges are
original and working, as are lights, wipers, horn, etc). Two-post
cassette stereo likely added in the 1980s is inop. Headliner is in
good condition as is the square-weave carpet.
Under present ownership since 2013, this car has been driven
garaged and driven very little over the last decade. Power comes
from the original, numbers-matching 1.6 liter flat four fed by
Solex carbs. Recent service in preparation for the sale includes a
carburetor rebuild, full tune up with all new ignition components,
and oil change. Type 902/1 dogleg five-speed transmission is also
the original, numbers-matching unit. Shift linkage is nice and
tight, clutch feels good with no chatter or slippage, and we have
not observed any crunchy synchros, even during spirited
driving.
