Vehicle Description
1963 Ford Red 427 Galaxie 500 Convertible
Why This Car Is Special
The early 60's saw the rise of drag-strips and circle track racing
and American auto manufacturers were finding out that the more
cubic inches and pure horsepower they could put is muscle cars, the
more they would win on the racetrack and the street, hence the more
of these cars they could sell.
We have a beautifully restored 1963 Galaxie 500 2dr Sports
Convertible here at Skyway Classics that is finished in red over a
matching vinyl interior is powered by a replacement C6ME-A 427
cubic inch V8 engine mated to a floor-shifted C6 three-speed
automatic transmission.
Cars like this 1963 Galaxie are why Ford was dominating on the
NASCAR circuits. Nicely finished, it's an upscale cruiser that can
still hand out beatings on the street.
Mechanical
As mentioned, the factory 289 cubic inch V8 engine was replaced
with a C6ME-A cubic inch V8 engine featuring Cobra 427 valve
covers, chrome open element air cleaner, cam inside burbling
through the headers and dual exhaust system, performance ignition
system including the distributor and spark plug wires, and it sits
in a very period correct clean, painted, and detailed engine
compartment.
The automatic transmission shifts through the gears well as the
entire car feels robust and sturdy with the power going back to the
rear end.
It's an easy highway cruiser too as it rides on the 15" Torqe
Thrust-style wheels feature body-color centers and are wrapped in
BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Braking is handled by power four-wheel
drums.
Interior
The all red cabin features include deeply comfortable twin front
bucket seats and a matching rear bench trimmed in red vinyl with
cloth inserts. Amenities include an analog clock, a push-button
AM/FM radio, auxiliary gauges mounted underneath the dashboard, a
Hurst T-handle floor shifter, red carpet and side door panels, a
red three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring, a red
dash with factory instrumentation including a horizontal 120-mph
speedometer and gauges, plus aftermarket gauges under the dash.
It has a new beautiful black convertible top with a red top boot
that offsets the red paint and turns it into a gentleman's hot
rod.
Exterior
Our Ford has been repainted in red that looks sharp on all the
styled body panels on the Galaxie. Brightwork includes dual
fender-mounted mirrors, side trim, and bumpers, rear fender skirts
are included in the sale, and 427 fender badges have been
added.
It looks just as much of a sleeper car today as it would have back
then. Ford gave this car great styling with crisp lines and those
big, round tail lights that reflected the '60s enthusiasm for the
jet age.
Conclusion
This red 1963 Galaxie 500 2dr convertible we have here at Skyway
Classics with its big block FE engine and bright red interior is a
knockout today and would have been one of the fastest Fords
available back when it was new.
If you want a big block, big body, Ford muscle car, this is the car
you have been waiting for.
