78 Firebird Formula 400, 6.6 automatic with 105,000 miles, has Z
digit in vin indicating L78 400. The U in vin indicates Formula.
Here are some 78 Firebird production figures: Total Formulas-24,346
and of those 4,649 were L78 400 automatic! Total T/A-93,341 and of
those 57,035 were L78 400 automatic! Hurst T-Tops, power steering,
power brakes, red with black interior. Comes with 'Dealer Vehicle
Invoice' which says 400 4 bbl V8 engine. Was repainted red in 2009.
Paint is very good but not perfect. Was oxidized blue when we
purchased it. Original factory color was yellow. Most, but not all
of the outside body was stripped of all old paint with DA sander
before work started. Doors, hood, trunk lid, rear bumper, tail
lights, rear spoiler, window trim, emblems, grills and more all
removed from car during work and painting. Entire front clip was
not removed except hood and grill inserts. Glass was not removed.
Interior is mostly original including dash pad with no cracks. New
rear package shelf with 6x9 speakers. Cassette radio was in car
when purchased. The water drops you see on the seats are from the
windows open after I backed the car outside and it started to
sprinkle during picture taking! Could use new door panels but
originals are useable. Drivers sunvisor does not stay up to good.
New parts include Pipes dual exhaust with Flowmaster 40 mufflers
and stainless tips, chrome alternator, tall valve covers, air
cleaner, starter, radiator, master cylinder, front brake calipers,
rotors, pads, front sway bar bushings and links, coil springs,
shocks, rear brake shoes and drums, leaf springs, air shocks, door
and trunk weather stripping, wheel well trim/moldings and hood
release cable. Car cover also included. Original 4 bbl. carb. was
sent to Florida shop that specializes in carb. rebuilding. Electric
choke added. New 15 x 7' front & 8' reverse offset rear Cragar SS
wheels with spinners and BFG T/A tires. AC has been removed, but
have all original parts.
