When you mention instant collectibles, the 2004 Volkswagen Golf R32
shoots right to the top of the list. It was only available for one
year, and it was the ultimate hot hatchback. This includes
all-wheel-drive, a six-speed, and one of the hottest versions of
the VR6 motor around. So when you can find a clean example, with
the right modifications for added sleekness, you know this is a
value-priced stunner.
Reflex Silver was one of the few colors available for the special
run of Golf R32s, and we think it looks the best. After all, when
it looks this glossy on a well-kept example, we bet you'll refer to
this one as your silver bullet. VW made this look speedy right from
the factory with special features like the wide-open front bumper,
clear headlight package, flared fenders, a roof spoiler, and a
special rear valance with the integrated dual exhaust. This one
takes it a step further with upgrades that are subtle but they make
a big difference. The deleted badging gives this a sleeker look,
especially with the altered grille and hood that are then needed up
front. The deeply tinted windows add a dark side to this coupe
while also looking good against the silver. And the 3SDM 18-inch
wheels are both stylish and well-engineered... just like the
R32.
The interior was made for a special speedy machine. Volkswagen
installed ultra-supportive Konig leather bucket seats up front, and
everyone has the Golf R logo stitched into the seatbacks. There's a
leather-wrapped sports steering wheel on a tilt column, power
steering, a grippy shifter, and crisp/clear dials. We love a VW
like this for more than just the factory performance upgrades. This
generation Golf also provided you with a world-class kind of
interior with good materials and thoughtful placement. So while
it's believed the odometer reflects the full actual mileage, the
feeling of this one still would make you feel at home in the BMW
family. Plus, you have a ton of features, like automatic A/C
climate control, power windows, power locks, keyless entry/alarm,
dual airbags, ABS, cruise control, an armrest center console, and a
sunroof. And this is even upgraded with an Alpine AM/FM/CD/XM
stereo with a subwoofer speaker system.
There's a whole lot of motor that VW got in the engine bay. This
generation Golf was already impressive for fitting the excellent
24-valve DOHC VR6 V6 motor in such a small car, but the R32 was a
whole different animal. The engineers expanded the displacement to
3.2-liters. It produced 240 horsepower. That's nearly as much as a
Mustang GT from the same year! And not only does this multi-valve
motor have a better gallop than those pony cars, but it knows how
to feel like it's riding on rails. The short wheelbase, Haldex
all-wheel-drive system, fully independent suspension, four-wheel
power disc brakes, and grippy sport tires will deliver the most
driving fun you've likely ever had. The six-speed manual
transmission puts it all firmly in your control, and that includes
the terrific growl the Germans gave the special exhaust.
Complete with owner's manual, this is where rarity and
collectability meet true driver passion. Don't miss this R32. Call
